Is Jaguar finally dead?

I saw some of the Frankfurt Motor Show on the idiot lamp tonight.
The new Aston was obviously a progession on the past and looked to die for. A wheeled missile.
The new 'Only in black' Porsche looked cool.
The Bentley was definately a move in the right direction.
There were some trick looking 4x4s.
Jaguar have always produced beautiful cars that still looked modern after twenty years.
So why, oh why does the new Jag look like a piece of crap cheap Chrysler?

Sorry Ned, don't got any.
If anyone has, you will see what I mean.
It's the XK F.

I don't doubt that it'll be a fine car, but Clarkson and co will try and finally kill of any remaining vestiges of British car manufacturing when they get to test it!

Some nice interior touches, but hardly looks like the interior of a car that *starts* at £33k; and I'm guessing that if you do pay £33k you won't get all those toys. As for the exterior, well, it just doesn't look like a Jaguar... no graceful feline lines

Cheers

It looks like a Volvo but probably doesn't work as well. I went for a ride in a fairly new Jag a couple of years ago, and the switches fell apart in your hands. Absolute, depressing crap.

I'm not really keen on Jag's design direction.
The new Aston however .........

I understood Jag quality to be rivalling if not better than Merc?
Anyway, that XF is horrible. Front is pug ugly, as someone said amercianised. Sides so so, back reinds me of XK, so i like!

I too thought the front was reminiscent of Lexus... those headlights are butt ugly!!! Looks like a chinaman with his eyelids peeled back... sorry!!!

Jaguar would have died long ago if Ford hadn't rescued it. All Ford have done is prolong the agony in my opinion. Jaguar need to re-evaluate their position, they were a (yes, crap) luxury car builder that if you wanted their cars you paid for them. Similar to Audi now... trouble is they went downmarket and lowered the Marques image. Jaguar with Mondeo bits??? WTF?? Now the damage is done...

Steve

Crossfire - isn't that an old merc in drag, claiming to be an american sports car and built in germany ?

As for the Jag - the X type was an expencive mondeo, so whats the new one ? my bet is its really a new mondeo or possibly volvo?

As a car its not a bad looking one but doesnt seem to fit in the Jag family. The back end looks very Aston to me. The front however doesnt look individual enough to command a premium.

When i saw the Aston i was drooling and thought wouldnt it be nice to have a more affordable one that wont devalue the Marque - the new Jag seems to fit that bill in a strange way.

I don't think there is anything wrong with it - shame they didn't keep the headlights of the concept car though as they looked much better. Apparently it doeslook much better in the metal than on the photos. and it has to look much better than a 5 series, not that that is difficult, but hasn't stopped people buying them in droves.

Designed by a Brit, Iam Callum - the same guy who styled all the current Astons.

Jaguar have needed to move styling direction for a long time, to bring them out of the sigma, old timers car that putters you along to your leisurely golfing day.

The new XK is/was ace, especially with the stonking sounding V8, at the moment I'm unsure on the XF, interior bonza, unsure on the front end, will have to see in the flesh.

It is by no means ugly and even tho american own Jaguar is still classed as a british car and should be given praise.

You certainly can't throw the argument that bits of other cars i.e mondeo form the base line, yes maybe of x-type etc but doubt thats true of XK and XF, aston have been doing that for years and seem to be able to charge excess of £70k. And styling alone doesn't makeup for the extra £30k.

That said, wouldn't say no to new or old aston.

Just decided, think it's bonza!! I'll have one, just the problem of £33k
