Seat re-trim
chris68 - 1/6/15 at 05:10 PM

I know this is one of those 'how long is a piece of string' questions but between you all you may have some idea.

If I find a set of really comfy seats secondhand that will easily fit in a severn style car but are a bit scruffy has anyone got an idea of how much it would cost to get them re-trimmed? I like the look of either Caterham S3 seats or the Westfield seats.

Probably not looking at leather, so a single colour vinyl.

It may well be that it would be cheaper to buy some new seats but you never know!

If so, who have people used?

You'd probably be better off finding a decent set of secondhand seats that are known to fit a 7 type car and using those.

I had the westfield vinyl highback seats in my first westy and GRP ones in the second one and I'd go for the GRP ones everytime.

Be aware that the Westfield highbacks fit a widebody car (Westfield) and there's not a great deal of room to spare, so if using them you would need to check they will fit in the type of 7 that you are putting them in....

I modified a pair of truck seats, cut in half, removed about 3", welded together..
Awaiting upholstery but drawbacs I found.
- Heavy.
- Time consuming.
- Wider than I thought OK, so I had to relocate my Harness points.
- Did I say Heavy??

Good Points:
- It was very satisfying job.
- I´m quite sure they´ll be comfortable.
- They will be upholstered to my specs, and relatively cheap.

i haave a set of vecrta seats in my hood, very comfy

got them recoved in marine spec vinyl, cost me as much as a new set of seats

nice job though, and possibly better materials than an off the shelf car seat

the more comfy the seat the higher you are seated you can feel the effects of the extra height when corning

I've gone for a pair of outer seats from the rear of a Renault Scenic - they fit the Haynes 7 easily, are very comfortable especially if you like pies (like me) and are relatively cheap. i would like to find a pair in black leather though :-)

I had a feeling that the cost of a re-trim would be as much as a new seat - but its always worth asking!

Cheers all
