La Gold Procomp race/track car with 250bhp SR20DET conversion
Duncan Grier - 10/10/22 at 03:48 PM

I have for sale a Procomp LA Gold race/track car converted to 2.0 Turbo (SR20DET) and 5 speed manual gearbox from a Nissan S14 200SX. This used to race in the 750MC race series and approx. 10 years ago I completed the conversion and became a very very fast track car.

This is a genuine LA Gold and is not to be confused with the Procomp Locost or other Locost variants as the Gold is a far superior machine. Anyone familiar these cars will know just how competitive they are and quality of build, most people will also know the SR20DET engines reliability and scope for large power. So you really do get a fantastic package with so much scope to get what you want from the car

Anyway the spec is as follows:
Procomp LA Gold chassis
Procomp fully approved full roll cage with side impact protection.
Alloy racing fuel tank (5 Gallon) – with added vent as part of the move to fuel injected engine
Fully adjustable dyno'd and balanced suspension
Mechanical break bias system
SR20DET (blacktop) S14 auto engine (approx. 65k mileage) stock T28 turbo
S14 Manual gearbox, std flywheel and clutch fitted
Standard Nissan S14 ECU (no immobiliser)
SPA Micro Dash 2
SPA Micro Dash Logger full logging (including track mapping)
Still has Lap timer & beacon but iirc missing the transponder
Custom racing alloy radiator
Genuine Apexi air filter
Forge recirc valve with uprated spring
Charge temp gauge and sensor (very quick responding and precise)
Tubular manifold
Custom turbo elbow and 3inch downpipe
Solid mounted engine and gearbox conversion
Custom prop shaft
Lada Niva live rear axle – well documented to be far stronger than the lesser ford escort version (larger crush washer and basically upgraded version)
New fuel lines (have gone hard over time)
Bosch 044 fuel pump
Uprated spark plugs
1.5 litre AH Fabrications alloy swirl pot
Facet race pick up fuel pump
Silicon hoses and alloy hard pipes
Hydraulic clutch converted to use original race pedal box (adjustable)
2 track days on Mintex 1144 front pads, oem rears (fronts are vented discs & rear solid disc and caliper) not lesser drum rears and single fronts on a lot of these cars
13 inch alloys with cut slicks all round and 1 spare alloy/tyre (all old and would recommend replacing even though plenty of treat
HKS boost controller
Battery kill switch
Braided brake lines & uprated clutch master to slave hose
Vx220 Intercooler built into ram air intake from nosecone
Longrace large rear view mirror and alloy roll cage brackets
6 point harness
SPA mirrors
LED Rainlight
SPA Quick Release Steering wheel
Fully Adjustable Wishbones
Fully Adjustable Trailing Arm
Modified Front Uprights
Race spec steering column
Mounting points for passenger harness & 4 point harness
Gel lightweight racing battery (flat and no longer charging so not sure if a decent charger will bring back to life)
The seatbelts and the extinguisher are now out of date (as per FIA regs) so would need replacing and recharged/certified before racing, however the extinguisher is showing charged. Perfectly acceptable however on a very quick trackday car.
Custom engine jack (this car is very low and normal jacks will not fit)

If you look at the Pro Comp website there are a couple of reviews of the LA Gold in there under media and more details

I am sure I have missed a few things and will look to pull the car out for better pictures in the coming week, I have a load of build pictures I will dig out for reference

While the car starts (fired up on very old fuel no issue after connected to another battery recently) and did drive until the clutch master and slave cylinder failed (looks like the seal has failed from storage and have removed from the car to diagnose) they are not expensive and while tight can be fitted back on without removing the engine. Other than this a good once over service, new tyres and ready to track

The intention was always to get a new custom bonnet made, get a remap of the ECU and just enjoy – it never me down on track – current the boost can be ran up to 12.5psi on the boost controller without any issues and make at least 230-250bhp (not dyno’d) with a chip (H-DEV a good one) a few hundred pound will take you to a safe 275-295bhp without moving to bigger injectors or over working the turbo. A road version of this car I built for a friend with bigger turbo and injectors on stock engine and box is running 375bhp on road and track to give you an idea of where you could go.

Unfortunately after not using the car for many years I have had to accept due to family life, work commitments and other focused car projects I wamt to complete the car is just not getting used and deserves better than to just sit in my garage and tbh lost all interest to do anything to it.

Any questions please just ask, car is sold as seen and have highlighted the only known fault (clutch master hydraulic/slave failure) and I have no intention to be doing anything to the car but happy to give advice.

These cars do not come up for sale often at all and is the only one with the SR20DET conversion.

£7500 for a quick sale

No silly offers please and just look into the cost and availability of this setup to see what a real a real bargain this is
