This hasn't to my knowledge happened on here, but see this thread on an Escort forum where people got scammed by someone claiming to have a
garage clearout
here
Here's a quote taken from a thead on the WSCC about it:
quote:
Theres a guy doing a scam at the moment He posts up saying he has a garage full of car parts to shift, all very rare, desirable stuff. ANd great prices. Only accepts Paypal and if anyone wants to collect he goesa bit quiet on them. Usually claims to be rebuilding a V8 Landrover but whatever the forum is (Opel Manta, Mk1 Astra, Ford Escort) he's got piles of stuff for them from an old project.
Needless to say people get excited, pay him loads of cash by Paypal and then he dissappears...
Examples of him in action

he took the Escort guys for well over a grand before he was busted.
Please keep it in mind that forums are no more trustworthy than the local rag and probably far less safe thean eBay.
Be wary out there. If it seems to good to be true it probably is and if someone won't play ball with cash on collection then run a mile.
Yep there are a few other threads about this person!! Hope the police get him!

Ah soz, still, its worth putting it in here and the Bargains Elsewhere forum as some probably only read these sections and don't partake in the general forum discussions.
Very true. Sorry, didnt mean to be rude. Having read through the posts on the escort site i am very warey of forum purchases. Very sad though, making
me/us loose faith because of a small number of theiving scumbags.

I didn't think you were, was replying to donut's post out of slight embarrassment of not seeing the original thread on here, you hadn't even posted your link at the time

Well you know what they say about if something appears too good to be true....
Psssss... anyone wanta buy a kit to build your own sports car for £250......
LOL, he seems to be a cut "above" your average clueless Nigerian though, this is one of his e-mails back to an unsuspecting buyer
quote:
i'll spray the skirts and spats for you, i have a compressor and spray gun, my paint supplier is cheap so it'll only cost a few quid for the paint.
as for fitting the suspension, the fitting instructions are there, its a dead easy job, bolt off-bolt on!
Ooh yes please! but a bit short of cash so would you swap it for my machine that turns dog poo into gold?

where theres money to be made for doing bugger all, there will be a scum bag a hole ready to rip you off...
hence why Mr CW boss man has put a limit on new sellers i believe?? good plan, and if the seller is a new seller, then be a little wary!!!!!! us old
dogs are trustworthy, well, i think most of us are hehe...............
rule is, be careful, be careful, be careful!!!

5:50- 5:60 is a pretty good bit!
Cheers,

"If we all get involved.... can I wear my Savate boots please?"
I presume they're Pierre Cardin!
I can always get a Shunting pole from one of my ex workmates It's about 6' 6" ins long and has a hardened steel tip shaped like a curly
pig tail about 5 ins across and 10 ins long to shove up his rear end if you get him, that way you will be able to twist it round then pull all the
money out if required.
(Though usually they faint before you get near them especially when the person holding it is 6' 4" and around 16 stone built like a brick
outhouse)
If help is required let me know
Ive always thought paypal was safe i have even called them before making a purchase through paypal but not through ebay and asked how much protection
i have and i think as long as you don't spend over £500 your pretty much protected.
Well that now sounds like a load of rubbish i think ill be cancelling my paypal account and starting again so as to have a credit card on there
instead of the bank transfer method at least that way you have got some security.
You can add a credit card as another funding option for your paypal account. They don't like you to use it if they can con you into using the bank account but on the 'Pay Now' page in small print there is an 'other funding' link for you to choose between the accounts you have set up if you have more than one. The "yes" button is not in bold like the "no" but it works.
Ah Ha sorted then.
im new on here.... so who do u trust on here 2 buy things from.. thanks baggio....

Baggio
All you really need to do is a bit of research on people. You can see from the sidebar how long the user has been registered, and its very easy to
search the forums to see what they have previously posted in various forums, which will give you a very good idea of whether they are genuine or
not.
In general though Id be very suprised if somebody came on here to scam people, and if they did the regulars would soon root them out Id hope, so
don't be too concerned about it, its just something to keep in the back of your mind.

have a look on paypalsucks.com !!!
1. According to PayPal accepting their ToS (Terms of Service) in effect means you waive your rights to credit card consumer protection laws if you want to use their service, and that you may not issue a chargeback for unauthorized use of your credit card and PayPal account, or if you do, then they have the right to limit your account. Is this legal? We don't know. But it's how Paypal operates.
I know of a few cases where credit cards that have been held on file have been used, and paypal accounts have been cleared out by hackers! I empty my account as soon as it gets to £50 and have deleated all card details form my account, just put number in if i buy something, and deleate it again,it's a bloody pain, but better than having some arse running up a big debt!

I've heard paypal offer more protection for buyers than sellers. The other scam I've heard is you offer to buy something, pay through paypal
and ask you to drop it off with a friend. Friend takes the item all nice and polite etc then by the time you get home the transfer has been cancelled
and the money is gone. It sounds like the money gets transferred from another person's account and then retracts it because they never authorised
the payment (I never bought a macbook!)
Seller has no comeback...
I'm looking for a lada niva for sale. I've been looking for one for a couple of weeks now.
