Do exhaust silencers need a rolled end to pass SVA now?

I have seen this one from an old westie but not sure if its suitable?

it will need a rolled end, so no, it's not suitable as is.

Yes, rolled end needed on the tailpipe but Mr SVA won't like the edges of the can itself either.
Cheaply and easy enough to sort though. I edged mine with split 8mm Kunifer fuel pipe.

Have you any pictures of your modified silencer? Was the pipe plastic/rubber or metal and how did you attach it?

For £35 delivered is this one worth a punt?

You could always buy one of those after market tail pipe finishers from your local car parts shop.

That's what I did - I bought a bit of exhaust trim for £4 at the peterborough show, cut it down and welded it into the end of the pipe.

Pic shows it before welding

Here's how I did it. On close inspection its looking a bit manky 4 years on from SVA. S'pose I could take it off...

Oh, and I did the same to the ali side panel where the exhaust enters. That bit still looks OK.

just wondering, did you not have to put some sort of heat protection on the exhaust pipe where it comes out of the car?

Russell

Did you just crimp the split tube on or did you fix it in some other way.

I tried with normal brake pipe but the result looks (and is) kak

Shaped it first so it was a good snug fit then kinda crimped it on gently. Been there for 4 years without falling off.
