More ebay oddness.

Few weeks agoI had someone "borrow" my advert, resolved the issue but now have another issue which is hopefully
unrelated.

Had automatic payment on ebay for fees etc but have had an email saying payment outstanding and they've charged
me a fiver for an returned direct debit. Now there's plenty of money in the account and no record on my bank statement
of any transactions to eBay and indeed no direct debit setup.

So where's it gone ? I never cancelled it.
And yes I am running upto date antivirus.

Anyone else had similar ??

Never had anything like that but when I have had weird ebay admin oddities or payment stuff, their customer support wasn't all that bad and resolved it all. Not as slick as Amazon, by any means, but like i said, always resolved issues.

I'd give them a call/email/chat and ask for the £5 charge to be waived/refunded, and if there's a problem with the direct debit just pay the fee by debit card.

Email ?

Link in email to log into eBay to "resolve the problem" ?

Please tell me if it was an email you didn't click the link to log in ?

Never ever ever log into paypal or eBay via links in emails, if I ever get (and some are good) a "email" from eBay I always go to my eBay messages inbox and look for the same message there, if it's not the "email" is not from eBay.

I'm not that Gullible Jon
The email simply highlighted an unpaid bill and ways to resolve, all of them cosher ways to pay. No links
anyway.

Just seems abit odd that they've "lost" my account details.

A few years ago barclaycard did that 6 months running

I discovered my ebay direct debit recently @ £50 a month ! dont ever recall setting it up, so I cancelled it and emailed them.

Next payment I made it defaulted to my backup payment option, might be worth setting one up.

As for the customer service, there isnt any that Ive experienced, emailed them 6 times regarding a fraud seller, complained etc and have not received reply to any of them.

If you fancy an hour on the phone, then a conversation with someone who cannot understand you, then obviously give them a call.

The option to online "chat" is also really helpful, but thats another story....The most efficient aspect of ebays customer service, is based solely on what they charge you, they do it very well.

I have had a similar thing happen with Paypal. They require a backup payment system, usually a debit or credit card. For some unknown reason, when I made a payment their system decided my primary source of funds 'wasn't available' and went to draw from the backup card. Unfotunately that card had expired and a new one issued by the bank ended in 4 different digits, so the payment was declined without any evidence that it had ever been attempted according to my records.

It was resolved eventually, but paypal can be very self-righteous and don't like to admit that they can be at fault. It was my responsibility to ensure that all payment details are correct. They require more than one source of funds and can decide which to use at random apparently.

They (Ebay & PayPal) have had quite a few technical issues recently.

I bought and paid for some items two weeks ago using "buy it now", but the items did not move from the basket to purchased items, paypal took the money out my account, but the sellers did not recieve anything! After lots of complaining, as I did not receive the goods, paypal refunded the money.
