Looking to buy an electric chainsaw, simply as it'll be quieter than my Stihl petrol one
for cutting logs up at home. I personally don't mind the noise but just want to be a bit
courteous to the neighbors.

Considering the Bosch or Makita 35cm ones but open to suggestions.

I bought a Bosch ... And wished I hadn't !!

I bought a cheap power devil one 10 or more years ago for one job for my Dad. It gets irregular use, but 6months ago was used to rid our new house of a couple of dozen trees. It has had a fair few new chains, and the bar is beginning to show signs of use, but has served me very well.
So, I would say most probably do a good job.

I have a titan electric chainsaw which I got from scewfix, which I use to cut up logs and old pallets at home, its on its second chain, but I cant fault it , still going strong!

I bought a Mcculoch one on chain number 2 bust has had some use and felled a few big trees

My electric one has been fine... But I can't remember the brand! Think it's black and decker.

Keep the bar oil topped up, remember to turn the bar over occasionally and sharpen the chain and you will get good use out of most makes. When the chips start to turn to dust then it's getting blunt and will burn the bar and wear the chain faster.

I'll post my comments about Ryobi saws when I've put the new motor brushes in and tested it. One of the originals had a chunk crack off it and it was sparkling like a catherine wheel when I tried to use it last. New brushes arrived today so we'll see what happens........

i have got a makita one havent managed to kill it after a lot of heavy use. on the other side of the coin i had a titan one from screw fix and managed to burn it out in a day.

buy once buy the makita.........................

p.s the makita comes with an oregon chain so you should be able to sharpen it with your current chain files if your running an oregon blade on the petrol one

or just go for a bad boy like this and chop all the logs in about 20 seconds

Slightly off-topic, replaced the brushes in my Ryobi and it's still sparking like a bloody catherine wheel!!
Looked at the receipt and it's not a year old so I'll take it back and see what happens. They'll probably tell me that becasue I've taken the end cover off and replaced the brushes trhat it's all my fault and I've invalidated the warranty.
I'll go off an sulk now

Got a Bosch, it works well but the lead could longer. For logs it's fine but up a tree you need to support the extension lead somewhere.
