2.3 E30 M3 in Diamondswartz black

Brought to the UK in 2000 from Germany

153600km (~95500 miles), MOT till end of March 2009, tax till end of May 2009

Has original stamped service book and an owners manual from its days in Germany, then history in receipt form while it's been in the UK.

This year alone the previous owner to me spent around £1200 on servicing it including a new clutch with slave and master cylinder, new brake calipers with new 25mm bigger master cylinder, new HT leads, new distributor cap and various bushes.

I've so far spent about £700 on new uprated diff mount, prop centre bearing and prop front coupling, replaced engine, gearbox and diff oil. I have also fitted the uprated E36 M3 chain tensioner.

The suspension is upgraded, I believe the shocks are Koni, adjustable damping on the front with Eibach springs. It also has adjustable front and rear anti roll bars and a Sparco front strut brace. It would benefit from an alignment of tracking etc to make it perfect.

A trait of these engines as you may know is that because of the solid lifters the valve train is quite noisy. I had the valve clearances checked and several lifter shims were replaced. It's quietened a bit but is still fairly "tappety". The engine oil I used was Fuchs 5W40 fully synthetic which may have been a bit thin and the use of 10W50 like Silkolenes race oil would most likely be a more suited choice, however the current oil is only a few thousand km old so I haven't changed it. The low speed cut in for the fan is being slightly intermittent, high speed works fine (both speeds do work when you jump the connectors together as a test so there is a minor wiring issue somehwere). I have fitted a brand new viscous fan coupling which effectively acts as the low speed.

The bodywork is is good condition and polishes up very well, a few scratches and chips here and there, the front bumper is quite peppered with stone chips. In terms of rust it is very good, the common rust areas on E30's like the scuttle panel and rear number plate surround have no rust. The only real area where rust is slightly poking through is the end of the right hand side sideskirt just infront of the rear wheel.

It has Bridgestone S03 tyres all round on the black centred 16" BBS which are the Cecotto edition wheels (one centre cap is missing). Two tyre have good tread while two may need replacing soon.

The gearbox is tight and shifts well.

The interior is full black leather with 20 years of wear and use visible but it's ok. Fully working electric windows and mirrors. Rare non sunroof model. There isn't a radio and the on board computer is a bit temperamental. The drivers side door lock won't lock but it unlocks so you have to lock it by leaning over from the passenger side. It has the full tool kit and jack set.

It has an immobilisor installed with two key fobs and I have a spare key.

I've only had the car for two months, I had an Evo 6 before which I couldn't afford to run any longer. I can now say I've owned an E30 M3 but now I need an everyday car and this isn't really suited to that role as it's a bit too "race bred" for my needs.

The car handles amazingly and I'm pretty sure that it handles as well as my Evo did.

The current market has a big range of prices for these with some people asking £15k or more for special edition versions. I want £8750 for mine with near offers considered.

If you have a cheaper RWD car that you can use as a part ex then let me know as I'm open to an part ex deal.

That is a stunning car. If i had the cash id love it.

You say the on board computer can be tempramental. Just to put people minds to rest, and assuming you are talking about the on board check control system (please correct me if im wrong). Ive had a few E30's before with similar problems. one of them had a fault where the rev counter would go off and occasionally the check control would throw a wobbler. After the main dealer couldnt trace the fault - i checked the fuses out of daftness, one of them was blown. Replaced it and all was well again.
Other problem ive had on 2 cars is that the rechargeable batteries soldered into the SI board fail after a few years (these keep the memory when ignition is off). These boards are fairly easy to replace at home and dont cost the earth as reconditioned units from a few specialists. I have managed to replace the batteries myself once but its a fiddly soldering job that im not confident with.


So, in a wordy way, all im saying is dont let that put anyone off buying a fantastic car. Id be more interested to know its a rust free car with very good mechanicals. All other bits can be sorted as an ongoing hobby.
