For sale, one minature Turbine engine...

Morning all.

This is a bit of a longshot, but someone might be interested on here. I'm selling my Minature turbine engine (yes, as in real live jet engine). It is a Wren MW54 mk3 engine that was built late 2007. It is in perfect condition, and only has about an hour or so's running.

It produces around 6.25kg of thrust, and runs on Paraffin, or jet A1, with 5% turbine oil mixed in. It is completely ECU controlled, so all that is needed to start it, is to fuel up, connect the starting gas, and initiate a start from a RC transmitter. about 20 seconds later, you have throttle control.

It idles at approx 45,000rpm and full power is at 160,000rpm. The throttle response is fairly quick, taking around 5 seconds from idle to full power. From 60,000rpm to full power takes around 3 seconds. from 110,000rpm to full power takes around 1 second.

The engine was built from a kit of parts supplied by Wren, and cost me over £1600 in total. I'm selling it for £1000 or nearest offer. It comes bolted to a test stand, complete with fuel pump, fuel tank, solenoid valves for fuel and starting gas, a regulator valve for the gas, and teh all important FADEC Ecu unit. All you need to add is some fuel, oil, gas, and an RC transmitter/receiver. I can also include the operating and build manual for your reference.

The engine can be seen running here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LSzqMUb_n_I

For more details or pictures (I have photos of the build), please get in touch

Cheers
Andy

PS. Manufacturer link is here: http://wrenturbines.co.uk/engines/turbojet/wren70 Nb. the MW54 has been replaced by an uprated 7kg thrust engine. All other specs like weight and accessories are the same. Rescued attachment running in.JPG

Hmmmm... nice..

I always fancied one of these with a free power turbine bolted on driving a radio controled hovercraft or something....

Not this engine no. I do have a boomerang with a Wren Supersport in it though Absolutely brilliant flier!

The attached image is one taken on it's maiden flight, about 8 weeks ago. It was about 40 seconds into the flight, and the engine is actually shut down, and it is on an approach to land. I had a pesky air bubble in the header tank, which found its way through to the engine (which meant instant flame-out!).... Rescued attachment Boomer4 small.jpg

yeah the boomerang's performance 'almost' (price is still a bit too much ) made me go turbine after being totally put off by another members bobcat (so called trainer) constantly slamming itself into the ground on landing as it couldn't go slow.

I got loads of "you'll never be able to operate that off our club strip" from some members. We only have a 50meter grass strip, but the Boomer is off the deck in about 25 with a Supersport up it's rear!

Landing is easy if you have the room. On a 50m strip, you have to be pretty accurate, and that is quite tricky with a jet at low throttle settings. I'm using crowbrakes (flap down, ailerons up) and rudder brakes (both kicked outwards) on approach, so the engine can be at a higher idle, and that bit quicker to respond if the sink rate is not quite right

Th engine for sale only has 55 minutes running time on it, and has 6 start cycles logged in the ECU. I just checked

Cheers
Andy

What about using it to keep a turbo boosting so you have instant power

I've seen a hill climb car with a turbine to produce boost, can't find it at present!
