FS: Xbox 360 bits and bobs

Hi, Unfortunately after not using my 360 for a while (due to a ps3) I decided to watch a dvd on it today to find it wouldn't load. "Odd" I thought, so I turned it off, waited a few seconds and then turned it on again - only to get the red ring of death! Son now I'm gonna sell the games and few other bits I have:

360 Games; Dead or alive 4 (classics), Oblivion, Call of duty 2 (classics), Call of duty 3, The Darkness, Prey, Condemned (classics), Splinter cell double agent, Call of Juarez, Hitman blood money, Ghost Recon Advanced Warfare (case is cracked but disc, manual and sleeve are fine)

Original Xbox Games: 50 Cent Bulletproof, Otogi myth of demons, Oddworld Munchs oddysee, Dead or alive 3, Blood Omen 2, Ninja Gaiden, Conker Live and Reloaded.

* Hadn't updated my 360 in ages so don't know which of the xbox games work on it, but conker definitely does*

Accessories: 2 controllers, one with rechargable battery pack, one with normal AA battery pack, quick charger, 20gig hdd, power cables, standard AV cables (can put out in HD but are not hdmi)

Offers on everything,
Cheers Tom

When a Microsoft Xbox 360 console experiences a "general hardware" failure or "core digital" failure, three flashing red lights appear (known as the "Red Ring of death" or the "Three Red Lights of death" around the power button, in lieu of the four green lights indicating normal operation. Warning signs may include freeze-ups, in which the screen has strange, spontaneous graphical problems in the middle of gameplay, such as checkerboard or pinstripe patterns on the screen, the sound is frozen and changed to a strange, static-like sound, and the console only responds to pressing the power button to turn it off. These events may happen once or several times until the general hardware failure occurs, or not at all. Just because an Xbox freezes once in a while does not mean that the error will follow. When the error does occur, the user attempts to turn the console on and the three red lights are seen and the console will not function.

Some have confused General Hardware Failure with a similar looking error warning where four red lights appear, in which case the console does not detect an AV cable is plugged in.[6] The four lights can sometimes also be seen when power surges or very brief power outages occur while the console is running, in which the console needs to be unplugged and plugged back in again to reset the error. Two red lights appear when the system is overheated. In newer consoles, there can be three lights flashing with a green light flashing in the center for power outages

There is a company near me that will fix your XBOX for £40. Mine just came up with fault, took it over to them and had it back working with 3 hours, and with a 6 month guarantee. They also do postal repair too.

Hi,
I've got 3 red lights, all but the top right corner, the screen froze a couple of times as it was doing the xbox power up video, after that just the three lights with nothing coming in on the screen. I don't use it a whole heap and don't have time to fix it in between my other projects so the console is up for grabs too - although due to the weight of it I expect postage might be a fair bit - I still have the original box and docs so that will go with it. Thanks pheonix, steve, and balidey for your help but I'll stick with the ps3.

I was under the impression that the xbox updates with new game releases containing them. I just got a jet fighter sim and it updated mine so now its more like missy’s Wii with Mii characters, all looks rather girly now

Yeah mine isn't online and although some of the games update different parts of the system mine hasn't had a recent game in it, so it still has the old style browser - to get backwards compatibility I downloaded a file off the net, burnt to cd and stored on harddrive --> only did it once at the beginning but apparently more and more titles were to become backwards compatible. Microsoft extended the warranty for Red Ring repairs on the 360 to 3 years (link), so you may still eligible for a free repair under warranty?

I got my console, which was purchased back in 2005, repaired under warranty last autumn. The whole process took about 2 weeks from collection to delivery.

Check out the xbox support website for more information.

Brilliant! they will repair my "unrepairable" PS3 for less than the base repair cost of most other companies!

Brilliant, was not aware of that, my console is just within the three years so will be getting that sorted today. If anyone wants any of the games I'll still be open to offers but the accessories (like the controllers, batteries, hdd, cables) and the console will be staying with me. Thanks everybody, much appreciated!

Just to put my oar in. I had the same problem. Went onto the Xbox web site, registered and logged the problem which comes up as a free repair and they pay for postage too. Just print the delivery label off and either drop it at the local UPS or arrange for them to collect. Didn't take more than 2 weeks and when it's back they included 1 month free of online stuff so you can talk to all the chavs on there and listen to the Americans swearing at you!

Just a note, it has to be the THREE red segments (an E74 error on screen if the screen still comes up) to be eligible for the extended warranty. If it's just one red segment (like mine was) they ain't interested, you have to pay for the repair.

I have RRoD on my Xbox360, possibly brought on by my gf putting a DVD case over some of the vent holes (grrr!).

Fixed it with a kit off ebay for ~£5 as its was out of warranty.

Basically new heatsink compound and increase the clamping force of the heatsink.

Sorry to resurrect this thread but just wanted to append a note in regards to the above link to a company called skprepair.

The customer service I've received is appalling with a postal repair. The playstation was damaged in transit to him and now he refuses to cooperate with myself or the post office in getting it sent to their claims department *freepost*.

He is now holding my £500 ps3 hostage.
