Garage lathe for sale
The next door neighbour has offered me one of his lathes but I've not got the space for it so thought it might be of use for someone on here.
I dont know too much about it, but he's given me the spec sheet.
It's a TOS S28 Centre Lathe and runs on 3 phase but he's got a single phase converter with it.
The bed is 250mm, the distance between centres is 750mm, it's got 3x18 grades spindle speeds, 31-1600rpm, 20-1000rpm and 63-3150rpm
It weighs the best part of a tonne, so would need something big enough to take it away. I know he wants rid and is open to all reasonable offers.
I've got 2 pages of spec sheets if someone is interested I'll get typing them up.
It's located in Bristol.
A couple of pics of the model (note - not the actual lathe as it's buried under cloths etc )
Is this a TRADE ADVERTISEMENT?? Click HERE to report it!

don't write OT on a new thread title, you're creating the topic, everything you write is very much ON topic!

A 3 phase to single phase convertor surely has to draw some amount of current??
Your meter will be going round like hell!!

Those converters don't take a lot of power - I run mine off a standard domestic plug with a 13A fuse.
My Colchester Student lathe has a running current of around 5A, according to the converter's meter - mind you, startup takes a LOT more for
about 2 or 3 seconds!

Spoken to him tonight, he wants £150 ono.
He did mention the converter and think he said it draws 30a on start up but has a warm start (or something) and it's got a clutch so it
doesn't need the power turning off and on again to change direction.

Holy poo - people should be biting his arm off.
That is one hell of a lathe, if only I had the room for something of that size

That lathe looks about the same size as my Colchester Student - and the weight estimate is probably too high - mine is around a half-tonne.
That's still a considerable weight, and it will be very top-heavy, so any prospective buyer should consider professional shipping. In my case,
I got a local engineering firm to move my lathe around 15 miles - cost me £100, with me as 'assistant labourer' to the lorry driver.
I'm very glad that I did, as it was an awkward bar-steward to move around.
Mind you - that's a very good price for a big lathe - is the converter in the price? If it is, that's a VERY good price (a converter is
£400+ new on its own).

I honestly dont know if the inverter is in with it, but if anyone is interested, drop me a U2U and I'll forward his mobile on. He did mention he
bought the motor to convert it to a single phase but never got around to fitting it.
