Apart from, how they sound. I'm amazed that it's not been done before?
There must be some reason why it's nor widely used, it may only be cost, but I doubt it?

The electrickery is a bit of a pest, but not insurmountable. Other than that, it's just the cost. New gizmo's and gadgets always command
a premium.
Sure, the R1 is a technologically fabby-doo engine, but it doesn't make the wheels turn faster in proportion to its market value!
That said...£2750 is about as good a price I've seen for one and if you really MUST have THAT cutting-edge engine then Malc's the man to
buy it from!

I think the not been done before is most people stick to what they know or they know works
i dont know what power the 2010 R1 pushes out!?
i've heard the new bmw S1000RR in stock trim is 190bhp

Cross-plane is (to some) a non-ideal due to the extra mass the crank has to take on, the stress is considerable.
The sound, however is something different, I hear them on a dyno nearby, pretty unmistakeable, a kind of Triumph Triple/Ducati mix. BHP isn't as
high as some though.
Crossplane is great for a bike, apparently, helps even out the power pulses for a more controllable grip, or so I'm told (I haven't ridden
one to confirm). Whether you'd notice the power pulses with two 9.2 A92 Avons.....
Nice one Malcolm, hope someone tries this out, unique sound. Should be something special.
As for the BMW engine, hmmmm, BMW have grabbed back all the crashed ones as far as I can tell......
The new '6' might be something interesting for a road-going 7.

The BMW is a real good engine a bit larger that a std 1000cc bit like a busa motor in size
the internals are mostly Yamaha based and the head is a big copy of a 09 1000rr blade
and your correct BMW have bought every crashed or damaged bike back iv seen 2 go for silly money
talking of which a 09 busa cat d repairer with a complete side damage went ast week for £5870 plus charges
you can buy one in autotrader fof £6k with no damage the world has gone mad

probably because bmw were selling race bikes just short of 10k and the side car lads snapped them up just for the engines  loads of chassis with no

years ago they used to turn fzr1000's into big bang engines and use them in the grass cars
