Road tyre

Following on from the thread about track day tyres, what about decent road tyres to suit a 7 style car, not R888 or Yoko A048R etc.

Anyone got any suggestion for something suitable for our lightweight cars (and best place to buy would be helpful)

Cheers

Scott

how about r1r, nice open tread, and very sticky rubber, perfect for these extra light cars,..

I used to have a set of R888's but was caught out in heavy rain one day. Every time i went through any kind of water build up on the dual carriageway i was on i was just a passenger, scary stuff.

I replaced them for R1R's which i find just as sticky and much better in the wet.

Camskills were the cheapest at the time when i purchased mine.

For decent road tyres that won't break the bank I would personally go for either falken ze512 or khumo ecsta sport. Both excellent tyres for the price I found them to both have excellent cornering and stopping performance. Any decent tyre place should be able to get these, make sure you haggle hard as they get alsorts of rewards if they meet their sales targets on these sorts of tyres.

yokohama 021r are pretty good too.

Camskill or George Polley Motorsport for best prices.

+1 for Toyos. Blackcircles came up the cheapest for mine in 195 50/ 15 for sub £ 53 a corner fitted and balanced. They are quite a soft compound tyre so not sure how long they would last but they are a very very grippy for a tyre at anything like that price.

Yes, I like the Toyo's too, but I can't seem to find them in R14 that I need for my car
