195/55 15 tyres or something else - help!

I purchased a locoblade 5 years or so ago and it's finally time to change the tyres on it. At the moment it has some Dunlop Formula R-s on that came with the car but they now need to be changed.

I'll be honest and admit that I'm stuck. At the moment it has 195/55 15 84v all the way around but I'd like to know if I can change them to 195/50 15 82vs instead without too much issue? I appreciate the wall is slightly smaller but the prices are substantially cheaper and hence this post.

I can adjust the speedo accordingly so that's not a problem, but I need to know before I order the tyres tomorrow/Tuesday as to whether or not I am doing the right thing with going to this size tyre.

The wheels are Raceline RL-7s 6x15x-16mm 4 x 108mm bore=63.5mm Ford running gear from what I can see in the original receipts that came with the car. If anybody could suggest the best tyre size for this wheel it would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

A very wise move I reckon.
2.5% difference, so will drop the gearing a little. Width etc the same so no wheel issues.
Are camskill still doing the toyo's for £30 a pop?

Yes but consider this.....

You have a car that doesn't that much weight on the front axle, a narrower tyre on the front would be worth considering say 185/55 R15 or 185/50 R15 or even 175/50 R15

Thanks for the replies to date. Would the 185 or 175 be fine on the wheel I've got? I had been thinking about having a narrower tyre on the front as the current ones are a bit too wide for the cycle wings and it has been bugging me.

175 or 185 fit fine on 6" wide rim 185 is very close to the ideal size.

195 is also close to the ideal theoretical size but very slightly wide.

205 is also well within the suitable size range

Generally a tyre that is at the narrower end of the fitments width range for a rim width gives better handling particularly steering response and feed back.

I was originally looking at Toyo R1R's but the smallest they do is a 195 fit so the thoughts of a 185 fit now look to be out of the window.

So it looks as though I'll have to go with the 195x50 option all round.
