Powerlite calipers

Hi everyone, this is my first post on here and I have a brake related question.

Has anyone used a wilwood powerlite caliper with a 24mm thick disc ?

Thanks

Jed

I think they specify up to .86", i.e. 22mm - you could probably grind a bit off the pads if necessary to get the remaining two mm. Probably easier and more cost-effective to buy discs that fit though?

Hi, I should explain that the calipers are not for a kit car but for a mk2 fiesta.

Im trying to fit 260mm discs and 4 pot calipers under 13" wheels, Not an easy task with a FWD et.

If anyone knows of any other 4 pot calipers that are a similar size to powerlites could you let me know ?

Thanks in advance

Jed

Powerlite calipers are only suitable for cars weighing upto 750kg.

I'm sure a Fiesta will weigh more than that?

Duratec Engine is fitted, MS2 Extra V3 is assembled and tested, engine running, car now built. IVA passed 26/02/2016

The fiesta should weigh no more that 850KG .

I know that compbrake caliper that were rated for 750kg worked fine on a mk1 fiesta with full interior etc so The wilwoods Should be fine on my stripped out mk2.

Im only asking on here as I though powerlite calipers would have been a popular choice for kit cars.

So has anyone tried a 24mm thick disc in a powerlite caliper ? did it fit ?

Thanks

Jed

A standard mk2 xr2 fiesta weighs in at about 800kg, so a stripped track focused one should be easy enough to get under 750kg.

How much brake clearance do you have ? I imagine that it must be tight

just a word of caution, using calipers undersized for car will invalidate road insurance pretty quickly.

I would hazard a guess that they 'limit' to 750kgs because they aren't stressed to take particularly high line pressures/pad forces. These sorts of billet machined aluminium calipers will naturally fatigue relatively quickly and pushing past the recommended limit probably isn't a good idea.

That said, I would run them as long as it was without a servo....
