AOL isn't it? don't know what they're like now, but years ago we tried one of their free demo discs you get in the post, totally took over the whole PC and you couldn't get rid of it... still, free laptop though!

don't write OT on a new thread title, you're creating the topic, everything you write is very much ON topic!

i do believe that you have to be contracted to carphone warehouse for over 2 years to get the lappy, so u will be tied down to them for that period.

I was with AOL a few years ago, I had my emails broken into - threatened and AOL did sh*t about it.

AOL's system STILL takes over your PC and getting shut of it is a nightmare. I would not recommend using AOL or Carphone Whorehouse (I've been with this bunch of wan*ers, they had to let me escape from there contract early due to not having a phoneline OR broadband for over a week!) as long as I have a whole in my arse...

To say I'm bitter is an understatement....

Steve

I was tempted by this deal but when I asked more questions they turned out to be more expensive than TalkTalk with the same spec (free calls & broadband) The lappy is also fairly low spec too.

Cheers,

wouldnt touch AOL if they gave me 2 free laptops! to be honest after a klot of messing i eventually went with BT, not the cheapest but have not a single outage in over a year now and at least i sont get charged for tech support liike AOL and some others do, they also tend to be one of the quickest to get connected to.

I've been with Plusnet for three years and think they're superb - never had a single problem. Not sure if my package is still available but I pay £15/month for 2meg and unlimited downloads.

Don't touch AOL. Takes over your PC, locks you into a silly contract, and (from my side, as a content provider) they make up their own rules about things like email, meaning lots of sites don't work properly (this one included!)

If you can get BE in your area I'd highly recommend that. Cheap, reliable, and fast.

Otherwise, I'd pick one of the semi-technical companies out there - Griffin, Plusnet, Eclipse, Nildram, Bulldog spring to mind, although no experience with any of these for some time.

Chris
