MK Indy zx10r TURBO 1st dyno run

Hi All

Got the zx10 turbo mapped this saturday attached a small vid of the 1st run before mapping, was running 10psi then and it did 284 bhp mmm

after final mapping and turning the boost to a respectable 8psi we ended up at 262 bhp @ calculated fly, 222bhp @ wheels 138 ft p torque, this was @ 12500 rpm with more to come the linter for some reason was cutting in early??

not bad really a 100 bhp increase on the std engine,


still nice and smooth power now i will load some more vids of the runs over the next days but a small one for a taster below,

well done and more to come should be lots of fun but i would think about some rods and pistons next if going for more power or try some c16 fuel but its a bit pricey lol nice car hope it all goes well

How did you compensate for the extra fuel needs? Extra injectors? Or ded the stock ones were able to cope with it?

Similar experience when I installed my Rotrex. I drove to the dyno with 162BHP and after changing one belt and having it mapped I drove home with 267BHP! So far I've resisted the temptation to make more.

Hi All

thanks for the comments,

the engine has all the rods pistons gaskets studs tensioners, valves etc upgraded and we run 99 oct fuel with fule additives

work was done by Malcom at mb customs top job,

more to come but not sure it needs it power is very smooth and you hit silly speeds very very quickly as it revs up as fast as you can change gear,

will get some more vids up soon and will be at sneeterton on 21st for a shake down,

ps this was pauls old car

Il have to watch the vid when im home but damn thats a lot of power i didnt realise you would gain so much and from quite a low boost pressure as to get 270bhp from my leon its been mapped to 23psi

How do you get the power down with all that Bhp?

rob - it might not be too bad as it doesn't have bags of torque and its probably quite progressive unlike bigger turbo car engines.

Question for Sean (INDY BIRD) - what have you done fuelling and ignition wise? ECU? Is the gearbox decent on these engines?

Hi

Fuelling wise run a bigger 500ltr ph pump capable upto 500 bhp so no probs,

Runs a begi fuel pressure regulator,

power commander for mapping fuel,

ecu is std and cappable for this power as is the geabox no probs upto 300 but beyond this prob need to run a hub with the power commander for the ignition etc,


power is smooth and the 888 can cope with it as im running a 314 diff so taller gearing,

with a 338 prob would be spinning the wheels

i get over 70mph from 1st gear crazy,

still 0-60 should be quick

How much have you increased the base fuel pressure by? (Assuming its an adjustable regulator)? Is it a 1:1 or a rising rate unit?

I think the R1 injectors are quite small but clearly you can push it a bit by upping the fuel pressure as you've done but there is a limit.

500litre per hour! 255litre per hour is enough for ~500bhp!

Hi

the begi fuel regulator is a rising rate regulator,


idle at 38-40psi then rises dep on boost,

we are getting as you will see from the map about 11-11.5 fuel ratio so enough fuel is getting through so it dosnt lean out

r1 should be good for 250 bhp on std injectors i think,

there are a couple of people on here who have done turbo conversions best to ask them??

Is that 250bhp with std injectors but a rising rate regulator? Or just the standard reg?

I don't think they are many who've turbo'ed an injected R1 on here - think the one or two are the earlier carbed engine...

I've been thinking along the FI route for some time now, for the GSXR750 powered brick.
Whether Turbo or Supercharger, whether MB, SBD or TTS, all offer kits to adapt to do the job. Potential outputs look rather healthy, and I do like the way the GSXR750 revs it's little heart out.
It seems though, that superchargers are all about boosting mid-range (not an area the 750 seems to sit much). Turbo might be a better bet, but lag problems etc.
What am I trying to achieve? The answer to the question of whether a forced 750cc is quicker than a tuned NA 988cc....
Please don't ask why, but some videos by wageslaveracing on youtube might have you asking as well..

the big difference is the revs both engine run, with 8psi at 12000rpm the engine is consuming so much more air than 8psi at 7000rpm, providing the fueling is right it will make a lot more power.

If you could get your leon engine to make the boost its making now at 12000rpm you would see a monumental increase in bhp over the current 7000rpm!

rev limiter problem - do you have your speed sensor installed, otherwise the ecu is locked in 6th gear and it thinks you are doing 186mph at around 9800 rpm... ??

awesome numbers... makes me want to get the 14 charged

If my calcs are correct 16psi (without intercooler) or 11psi (with 80% efficient cooler) might see you break 200bhp, of course still leaves the question of if you can build a 750 to take that at a price worth paying.
