1/4 mile - 13.82 - Blade 893

Last week I took my car for a 1/4 mile drag race and registered 13.82sec. No burnouts or slicks just normal road tyres.
What is the normal/average time for a carb blade locost?

These are the quarter mile times of a York Raceway drag day we did a few years ago, to give you some idea. Mixture of both BEC's and CEC's and ALL seven style sportcars, so no aero advantage.

Pah! My Tupperware Turd managed a 12.85 at Santa Pod. It was my first run up the Pod and it got slower over the next two runs until it died...

The Turd had an Alfa V6 but after the third one popped, I've gone French with a PugV6. It seems faster but the car isn't very road legal to test it....

What was your Terminal speed Phil?
somewhere around 98-101mph?

For years i've been dismissing the claims that becs do 100 in 8 seconds, or even 10 seconds for that matter, maybe one day people will realise that although they feel/sound quick, they're now lagging behind some of the turbo'd tin tops, these car are about corners and braking rather than straight line speed.

As for burnouts, most becs i've seen do a good burn out tend to have launch issues with bogging down, unless launched at 6k+

The times listed above were at York Raceway, I love the place to death, but a leach would have trouble getting grip off the line
reckon most Pod times would be better, although some of the smaller becs might suffer with an over grippy start line.

I did my first trip to York yesterday, and it was a bit damp. I don’t know if the proper stocks actually ran. I left around 12:15 to have a 100 mile drive home and they had not been on the track as it was too wet for them with the slick tyres.
The best I could do with my little car was 1/4 ET 15.8941 only a terminal speed of 83.3.

It was fun though and may go again when a bit dryer and at least now I understand some of the set-up.

Pod is very slippery unless you are on wide slicks, its almost a dead smooth surface. Its also slightly up hill.

We ran an almost identical time at Santa Pod, compared to York. The only difference was about 20 degrees in temperature. York was about 27 degrees, Santa Pod was about 7 (in March 2007) I reckon we could go slightly faster at Santa Pod given the same conditions. (I'm talking possibly a tenth or two rather than whole seconds)

Sadly this is probably true.

But, its not how fast you are going, but how fast you feel you are going.

60mph in a bec feels like 100mph, even faster if you get crap goggles.

My terminal speed was logged at 173.4km/hr which woudl eqauet to about 107mph

where MPH is terminal speed for the 1/4 and the time to 100mph is in seconds. I have done a simple interpolation/extrapolation, which isn't good physics, but isn't too bad given all terminals are around 100mph.

I also put the numbers in for the turbo on mine (mental), if I ever get it working quite a lot less than 10s for 100mph.

The bhp/metric tonne includes the drivers mass.

I am not suggesting these mean much, but it was an easy sum. I am burdened with being a physicist, so I can't help myself.
