Seamless tubes
Echidna - 29/12/08 at 09:34 PM

I need some seamless round tubes to fabricate a set of Locost wishbones. Unfortunately i cannot find the exact dimensions of tubes here in Greece, so i wonder if anyone has some for sale. If not, could you recommend any supplier in the UK with good prices and shipping over Europe?

The tubes are:

a) 1in (25mm) outside diameter and 13/16 (21mm) inside diameter

b) 19mm outside diameter 16swg

c) 25mm outside diameter 16swg

Thanks in advance!

Have you any landrover breakers ?

Use the steering rods off these, series/90/110/classic range rover, if you have cortina uprights the TRE's are the same taper and a little smaller and lighter than transit ones.

Some people report bending wishbones, so I have used 25x2 seamless for all wishbones.

If I were you I'd use anything that comes close to the dimensions, and seamless offcourse.

Maybe you can go to your local construction company and have them order the right stuff.

I used seamless as described for wishbones and trailing arms, but I looked at the BS specs for seamless and ERW and I can't detect any difference. As we all weld the ends on and heat affect the tube does it really need to be CDS?
Any metallurgists/stress engineers on here?

Firms that do repairs on hydraulics for diggers and the like use seamless tube for the rams, might be worth a shout.

The problem with getting it here and shipping it to greece would be the shipping, although there are a few people selling it on Ebay who might do it.
