Wanted mk2 rack mounts not aluminium or plate thickness.
AdrianH - 4/1/09 at 10:06 PM

Similar to a previous post, I am after some of the mk2 steering rack mounts for my build. I have a set of ali ones missing the small thick plate from the smaller mount.

To be honest I would much prefer to have the rack mounted in poly bushes rather then steel to aluminium, a bit less shock transferred I guess.

They used to be sold on ebay and in Rally design but can not find on either now.

If you have a set you would like to part with please let me know.

Also if anyone can tell me the thickness of the small plate that will give me the other option.

Cheers

Adrian

these ones?

i know its not really what you want, but rally design are quite good for returning parts, so if no one knows what thickness the plate is, order, measure, return

I'm sure that you could measure the rack. each clamp point is a different diameter. measure the two, and the plate thickness would be half the difference in diameter (or is it the total difference in diameter?)

Have you tried Burton Power ? They may sell you just the nylon packers ?
Nowt wrong with solid rack mount's - much better that the rack being able to flex and move

Hi

For the packer / spacer just make one to suit the gap you have. The ones supplied rarely ever fit properly anyhow and need either reducing or adding extra.

For replacement rubbers to go with the STD mounts dont use the Polly ones they are not stiff enough and act much as the std ones. Use the replacement uprated RUBBER ones. They are by far the best solution even compared to the alloy ones which do not grip the rack all round only on point contact.

Stick to rubber mounts --- making the mounts with close to zero compliance is really not a good idea. Machined from solid single seater racks are solid mounted but that is a different ball game

The part that really needs to be stiffened is the chassis mounting plate --- the book design is simply dreadful.

Thanks for the responses, I will still go for the original mounts and Poly-bushes if for nothing else then I have them already. On the Alloy mounts when I trialed fitted them even without the spacer it was evident that the clamp would only clamp in two places, top and bottom. Sideways movement is stopped by the bracket on the rack, but there is little to stop the whole assembly rotating over time.

I have a U2U and may be able to get what I want.

Other options are to get some fabricated from a local company.
