Collapsable boss and crash pad for Mountney steering wheel
andrew.carwithen - 2/2/09 at 09:37 PM

I'm after a collapsable boss and crash pad for my Mountney steering wheel to fit a Sierra column.
Ideally, just to borrow for SVA (I have a non-collapsable boss I could exchange in meantime) or I am willing to buy if thats preferable?

Thanks,
Andy.

Just posted this to your last post.

As I said about a week ago.
The Gillingham centre will not accept aftermarket wheels.

I used a properly padded wheel with a collapsible boss.
It still failed because, as the examiner said.
it is a non type approved wheel on a type approved column.
I know some centres have passed them with aftermarket wheels.
I think I would fit your non standard one but take the Sierra one with you incase you need to change it.

just fit the sierra one dont give him the opportunity to fail. If he were to be awkward at the centre he could argue about the safety of the Nyloc nut no longer being serviceable as it has just been removed if you change the wheel in front of him

He probably was... But who am I to argue?
I fitted the standard one and he was happy.
I got my MAC so I was as well

Mine passed with a Mountney wheel on a Mountney boss all on a standard Sierra column. Passed at Mitcham.

see, this is the thing, i haven't found (haven't REALLY looked that hard) anything in the SVA manual about collapseable bosses or aftermarket wheels.

it's all totally irrelevant. mine passed at shrewsbury with collapsible boss and mountney wheel. the gillingham guy wants a sierra wheel no if's but's or maybe's he's the one signing the MAC not us or the sva manual just fit a sierra one at least you know it will pass
I failed on the edge on the fuel gauge got told to remove it and blank the hole off as a fuel gauge isn't a requirement for sva

That's my point exactly.
Don't take a chance. Have it with you even if you dont fit it.

I fitted it, got the pass.
Got home, took it off.
lent it to another member taking his SVA 3 days later.
Job's a goodun, everyone happy.
