WTD: CAT Guard
nitram38 - 23/3/09 at 09:37 PM

Although not required for sva, I think that I need a guard for my CAT because I would hate for a small child to come into contact with it at a show.
Any suggestions or offers?

Cheers Martin

Well... someone had to be first...

More seriously, could you not continue the bodywork round a bit in-line with the belly?

nitram38 - 23/3/09 at 09:44 PM

No..........it would spoil it

Or move the cat to the horizontal pipe down below....

Not enough room. 4 into 1 manifold goes straight into right angle bend, then cat.
Otherwise the exhaust would be about 18" out from the chassis.
I just need a guard around the cat to prevent burns.

Weld a couple of threaded bosses onto the stainless exhaust either side of the cat and make/have made a nice curved stainless shield... if you are really heat consious get a double skined one made up with a honeycombe in the middle....Just like they do to insulate gas turbine exhausts :p

BLACK SATIN™ (Click Here To View) Rated to 1000ºC+
Black Satin™ is an advanced high temperature thin layer thermal insulation coating. Developed for us on competition vehicle exhaust systems it has industrial uses as insulation for steam pipes, curing ovens, boilers and flues.
By nature of its colour the coating dissipates heat very quickly once the source has been turned off.

How about a (mini) beer keg? I'll offer to empty it for you first?

Don't know if it would work but I seem to remember that someone here made a heat shield for their exhaust from the drum of a washing machine. I also believe there is a photo of this in the Ron Champion book.

If this is of no help my apologies, by the way the car is looking awesome. Love the screens reminds me of the original bat mobile!!

I think that the screens are coming off because of the distortion in vision. Not sure yet.
I'm making an alternative scuttle at the moment.

another idea for your problem. Their was a locoster on here advertising he would make heat shields for axhausts out of carbon.

I'm sorry but can't remember who it was but it might be worth dropping him a U2U.

I know who you mean, but they look too small dia.

Give him a shout. I am sure he will be able to make a custom made if you need one.
