WTD - Pug 205 complete car or rolling shell
nick205 - 18/9/09 at 06:55 PM

Probably a long shot, but I'm on the look out for a Pug 205 GTI car or rolling body shell. Must be 3 door, no sunroof, relatively rot free and most importantly straight.

Will be used for a RWD project.

What have you got...?

This is my GTI for sale only problem is it has a sunroof!

That looks a cracking little motor, but too good (and too expensive) to butcher for a RWD project.

Shouldn't have too much trouble selling it though

How are you rwd'ing it?

message me if you like, not trying to sell anything, but been there done that and might be able to save you some hassle!

Nat - you're already on my list of people to tap up for advice

Outline plan as follows...

Zetec mounted N/S mated to a type 9 box.

Caged shell incorporating mounting brackets for a De-Dion rear end using Sierra diff/shafts etc.

IIRC you built one with alive axle?

I'd certainly be up for some input on how you wnet about it and the pros/cons of the live axle approach.

U2U's to follow althoug be warned this is a long term project.

If I did it front engine rwd again I'd go de-dion.

The live axle was the worst part of the car. great on track, rubbish on really bumpy b roads!

De dion sorts the unsprung weight and gives the dampers a sensible task, while being a beam axle keeps camber nicel;y controlled, and is easy to mount.

Mind you, now I know more, I'd actually put the engine in the boot, transversely on a fwd gearbox, and hang it off the back of the main cage hoop, also using trailing arms dangling off the back of a tube joining the bottom of the main hoop legs........................

I have a saab 9-3 turbo engine and box sat in the workshop awaiting a decent Pug shell...........

This looks cheap.

keep it coming

This will be primarily a road car so good to hear your appraisal of a live axle set-up. My origianl direction was to try and garfta 405 Mi16 4x4 set-up into a 205 - possible but it seems fraught.

Back of head thoughts suggest big BEC FWD, but reality says cost vs value will kill that aproach.

Silly damned emotioal 205 attachment

ETA...
It will not be aturbo install of any kind - I can't get past the clean NA full throttle thing - possibly a dimmed view, but that's the way it is.

No, not silly! They make so much sense to modify (as in proper mods not chavving around! )

They don't rot, they have a decent front end suspension setup, they are light, they look good, body bits are dirt cheap, and they are wide enough to get most transplanty bits in the shell!

Here you go, some piccies of my old car, built in my mum and dad's single garage from a 1.0 crash damaged shell.............

Now thats a very tidy car, i like the cage and the details on the tunnel and 5 linked tubs.

NS Dev - 19/9/09 at 09:41 AM

Thanks very much!!

I do it for a living (If I actually made any money anyway lol! ) now, www.retropower.co.uk

That Pug was sold as a semi-rolling shell to IB Motorsport in Leamington. No idea what has happened to it since!

spdpug98 - 19/9/09 at 09:44 AM

Nick, hopefully something will come along. It's a bit of a shame you're a bit late, I sold my race shell last year before starting my build.....to give you an idea of cost I sold it for around £200.

I had stripped the car and sold all the bits but the car still had a fully welded Safety Devices cages in it

Good luck with the build, I also love my 205's

and just a reason to put up some of my old race car pics....I can't let go
