I am looking for a bellhousing for a Vauxhall 2l 16v engine to mate to a type-9 gearbox. Must be the upright type.
I'm also in need of a low profile sump for the same.
Thanks,
Chris
I've got an 8v steel sump that you could modify. other wise westfield charge £220 for their ally sump (which I've got) there was one going
for £200 on ebay recently. otherwise a manta 1800 sump will fit. also yukspeed do a steel sump or a weld up yourself kit.
i bought my belhhousing new for £160ish as they don't come up very often second hand. try the westfield/caterham forums, normally £100+ second
hand anyway..

ps you say you're making a middie, so why the heck are you using a type 9 box?!
Ned i thought the Manta sump was the 7 degree type??
Well I was for a long time thinking about designing and building my own middy. The mechanicals don't scare me as I am an automotive engineer, but
it was the bodywork that always put me off. Then I was seriously thinking about an Aeon 420 but couldn't afford it unfortunately, because it is
very nice. So I bought a part built Phoenix instead! (inevitable since I share a house with three others each of whom own a fury/phoenix!)
I am nearly coming to the conclusion that I have to buy a new bellhousing.
Are people who are welding up their own sumps doing anything about baffling them?
Thanks,
Chris
my ally one comes ready baffled, though you can use the windage tray that fits between the block and sump on the standard engine. i'd still
recommend putting in a couple of transverse baffles in the sump, possibly one longitudially, depends whether you think any possible surge will be
under accelerating/braking or hard conering.
so far as baffle design goes, shouldn't be any different from pinto baffling which is probably far more common, check the archives, someone has
probaboly posted about it before, maybe even some pics somewhere!

Ned theres a manta sump on ebay-but i'm concerned that its for the 7 degree install. Would this work on an upright install??
Regards, JJM.
I would have thought it'd be fine. I've heard of it used before upright, i'm sure. there is some info somewhere on sbd's site i
thin kabout modding i perhaps. the wing holds the oil so the only isue might be some baffling?!
Ned.
hi chaps,im cracking on with my kit again and ive used the original alloy sump from the enging and had it cut about and a gull wing fitted to the side.i went for the cheaper option and used a getrag calton box on mine,it fits straight on too. i have some pics if you like to see them.cheers
