I have a Westfield with an MT75 gearbox in it but the collar is missing for the lift reverse it just has a little wire hanging out which when pulled allows reverse to be engaged.

Why not just remove the rest of the lift to reverse mechanism?

Reverse cannot be selected by accident there is a lockout in the box, which only allows selection from neutral.

because i had never considered that!!!
