Anyone recomend a good compressor manufacturer?

good or cheap? a skim thru the machine mart catalogue will give you an idea of prices and specs.

i got one from them for around a long 'un. (£100 that is...)

there was a 25 litre 1.5 hp compressor in Aldi the other day cant remeber how much, though

Most of the cheap ones are the same, they just paint them different colours. My mate bought one from Aldi for about £70 and it's same as a SIP. O.K. for blowing tyres up and little paint jobs. It'll run a nailer but would struggle with a die grinder or similar, but you can buy an electric version of most air tools for a similar price and save the cost of the compressor. You need to look at the free air displacement, higher is better.

Looking for about 12 cfm delivered. Not sure of Machine Mart quality etc?

Peteff - 7/6/04 at 10:09 PM

You are looking at an expensive machine there. For a FAD of 12cfm you are talking something around 3hp or more, probably 3 phase and it's going to cost you around £400 when you find one. Get one with cast iron cylinder liners if you can, longer lasting than the nicosil on aluminium used in the cheaper end.

mine is 8cfm i think, and around 20 or 30 litres capacity. tiger oil free something or other... doesnt get used much, only for the plasma cutter. which isnt wired into the new house yet.

hey up,

when i was buting mine it was suggested to my to buy the best i could afford (cost £350) because the upper range of the home / DIY generally run quieter and the compressor isnt a single unit like the lower cost ones, so if the motor blows you can replace just that part insted of the whole thing, also belt drive is good for the same reason coz can chane the pump / motor independently of each other.

hope this gives you some ideas, also try halfords, they dont seam to sell much of the expensive gear and then flogg it dirt cheap (that how i got mine!)
