Anyone work in a vw garage could find out the service history of a Golf tdi i've just bought.

is that possible? I assume that it will only be if its had VW service history

I bought a GT tdi a few months back, seller assured me it had the cambelt done recently

I wasnt taking any risks, mate with a garage offered me a reasonable price to do it, hes 99% certain its the original LOL 116k miles, it should have been on its second 1

so if in doubt change them belts

Will only show if work done at a vw dealership . But in exactly the same boat as you re cambelt , guy says it was done but no reciept to prove.

I would assume not done, Also Check the correct grade oil in VAG TDI's especially if on variable service !!.

PS 214k on my old Passot 110bhp I think its overdue for its 3 or 4th timming belt ( now owned by a freind )

TBH if he can't prove the belt was done (receipt, credit card statement, bank statement???) you should be adjusting the price accordingly.
Son bought a Puma recently and had the same situation. If it's anything like the Puma it was quoted as a £400 job by Ford main stealer!!.
As it turned out it looked as if the belt had been done but it's simply not worth the risk of not replacing it.
Oil comment is also valid - so what's his story on that?

mines a 2000 GT tdi its the 115bhp model pump dusche? thingy

going rate for belt and water pump etc is £300 all in.

apparantly they changed the waterpump soon after mine was made, when the garage had to change the water pump they found that it was the original one/style, and the mechanic reckoned that my belt was also the original one

I saw it and would tend to agree to be honest, so they are capable of lasting well beyond the book mileage, but I wasnt going to risk it

was a cheapy banger car (compared to most), but its all I could afford, so certainly couldnt risk a blown engine.

Fully intend to get it done unless i can find out 100% that its been done along with the waterpump .

so you purchased a car which was advertised with a service history and yet they cannot prove it? I cannot understand why people cant keep a simple thing like a service book. If they could not prove it had the history despite them telling you it had, why not get them to get the garage which did it to print them out a copy of the work done. At least you got the price down as they could not prove this ?????

Don't recall saying i purchased it with history simply that anyone working in a vw dealership will have access to printing any main dealer history and would like it if they could.
As any history couldn't be shown the price was lets say altered somewhat.

Just phone up the local dealership and ask them. Simples. I've done that to chase service records for VW and Peugeot and never had any probs. All the service records are held centrally so if one dealer isn't too helpful just try another one.

All the dealers know that stamps in a service book aren't always to be trusted so they expect this sort of enquiry.
