Hi, Does anyone have a Plier type piston ring compressor they could lend me for postage and a couple of beers?? Id be very greatful, as the one i have is sh*te and isnt doing the job
what's wrong with a bit of spare ally formed into a cylinder and a jubilee clip?
always works for me.....
I used to use a bean can and big jubilee clip or tie-wrap, plenty of oil down it and knock the piston with the hammershaft. Make sure you have all the ring gaps covered and not in line. I've got one of the posh ones now, not a grip type but one with the key to tighten and it works fine with some engine oil round the inside before you clamp it tight to the piston.
protofj - nothing wrong with that, except i dont have any ally sheet...
Peteff - I might give the bean can & tie wrap a go, i have a draper spring steel rachet compressor, but every time i try it has an uncanny habit
of aligning the ring gaps and also doesnt seem to want to compress all the rings... I spent quite a bit on a set of gapless rings, and i want to make
sure they are installed as per the instructions.
