excuse my utter ignorance but I have a year 2000 zetec and am looking at some carbs for sale so will they work and pass IVA as I believe I need a CAT
etc for IVA, Very very confused ............
you will need a cat to get through emissions, but it can be done with carbs yes
I say NO. You will not be able to get them to meet emissions this opinion was backed up By Bogg Brothers when they did some work for me a few years
ago.
It comes down to if you can tune them to meet and still keep it drivable and for that reason I say NO.

The carbs would have to be incedibly accurately, otherwise the cat will soon die. Not sure how the MoT man will pass the lambda test too if there
isn't one fitted?
However, if you can get the carbs set up very very well, then no reason why the exhaust gasses won't be clean enough for the cat. Just remember
the cat can't sort out really pants exhaust gasses for any length of time. Injection would be a much better bet........
doesnt the cat sometimes fall off immediately after and then magically reappears at test time
I still say no as you will not be able to tune the carbs to meet the emmisions over the rev range needed. I could get carbs to pass on mine as its a
pre 95 engine.
Show me ONE person that has passed Iva running a blacktop zetec with an age related number on carbs and I will say I am wrong.
I dont think I will have to
only coz i can't be bothered with the search thing on here

True, but having struggled with an MoT (and given up as it wasn't my car) the lambda figure can be very difficult. Pinholes in the exhaust can
screw it up, and thats after the cat.
The other problem I can see is that if a cat is fitted, it will make a rolling road session rather tricky?? As it will alter the CO and HC levels.
Maybe the cat has to be removed, tune the car and then fit the cat? And cross fingers???
quote:that's a potentially dangerous tactic as in theory VOSA could pull you in for one of there roadside spot checks (which have been getting more common up here)
