12" Diameter tube
Badger_McLetcher - 5/4/11 at 01:15 PM

As per the title, need some tube 12" in diameter and ideally about 22" long, though it several pieces joined together could be used. Material doesn't matter, as long as it's relatively rigid. Any ideas?

Thanks for the suggestions guys, it's for the inner former of a foundry I'm making. I could bend up some out of the sheet steel I've got handy but it just seems a waste of metal tbh! It only needs to be used once to form the refractory around, but thinking about it would need to be water proof or it would go soggy during the casting. I could varnish some carboard I suppose!
A plastic pipe would be perfect- don't suppose anyone knows where I could get one that size?!? Will also have a look at gas bottles but I havn't seen any that large in quite a while.

A pile of 4 quality street tins

Funny that. I drove past a pipe supplier today. The plastic pipe used for underground waterworks. They have shed loads of all different sizes. I bet they would cut you off a small bit for pennies.

Dont ask me the name of the company, I dont even know where I was, south coast near Hastings area.

Hunt down your local and give them a shout.

Or you could get the side of an old washing machine appliance and use that.

Soz, could not be bothered to edit / post!!

the quality street tins gets my vote - yum

if it's just a former, then surely something wrapped in polythene would be ok? saves varnish,...

foundry...custom metalwork.....looking forward to this!

Hows about the poly pipe used for water/gas works - there's usually loads of it hanging around roadworks/building sites, pop in and ask or rob an off-cut overnight?

Then blog how you do it.
