hi im now looking for a ac/dc tig welder after waiting relentlisly for people to do my welding ive now decided to buy a tig and try do it my self hopefully cheeper in the long run

I doubt if you will save any money by buying a tig AC/DC machine unless you need vast amounts of welding doing. After you have bought the machine you will still need gas and regulator, consumables like rods, tungstens, ceramics, bodies and collets for different thickness of metal and it's not an easy process to pick up like mig which you can teach to anyone in a couple of hours if they have any practical ability. If it's just a case of "I want a tig welder" then carry on but you have not given much information like what size machine you want and whether you want an inverter or transformer. Reasonable AC/DC tig start around £1500 or you can look at the R/Tech shop on ebay for a 160 demo machine which usually makes them a bit cheaper.

Chinese welders are always an option. Some work brilliantly, others have problems immediately, its a £450 gamble.

I'd say for the DIY home user its worth the risk - get one with a 12 month warranty from a UK supplier and you wont go far wrong.
