I too have a mac (well macbook) at home and i configured my Dash2 with it by running windows 7 within VM fusion (although you could also bootcamp windows to the same effect).

If you haven't got access to a copy of windows at all that you can run on the mac, then i use an old PC power supply as a cheap and cheerful 12v source (you just need to apply a load onto the -5v rail, using a small tail stop bulb works good for this).

Alternatively you could always take a car / motorbike battery to work with you

Cheers

Could use a car battery charger, jump starter pack or the charger for one.

Also lots of Routers, printers, laptops, etc use 12v transformers so you may have something in the house already thats suitable.

They also sell tiny 12V batteries for alarm fobs, I think Toolstation were doing them for 99p

i would suggest getting a motor cycle battery second hand from a breakers for £5 or a get a old scooter battery from a mobility scooter then just wire to that.
