Does anyone have a copy of High Speed Low Cost by Allan Staniforth????
I would really like own or borrow this book off someone if they have one lying about they do not use, as I am struggling to find a new one (as out of
print), or second hand copy at a price I am able to afford...
I have contact the family directly, and they are unable to find one...
Many thanks
Yes I have a copy but I only ever lend books to people who I know very well - have you tried giving Robert Macnay a call who republished the book
about ten years ago (how I got my copy) zero one five one 327 3538

Then again with two dogs and three horses perhaps you may be a useful chap to be on the good side of LOL
If Rob cant help and you have no other luck drop me a PM

Thanks for the reply
I would watch who I was lending it to as well
I have just brought the plans for the terrapin, and feel I need to read the book, but does it give you information (along with the plans/drawings) how
to build the terrapin?
I would go as far to say that is essential if you are building a Terrapin etc. Much of its content is also in the competition car source book and suspension books Alan wrote but it's a great read anyway for a technical car enthusiast.
Hi
Out of interest where did you manage to procurr a set of plans from ?
As I fancy buying a set too
Not cheap, but 1 here
Completed listing
As above ring Rob - he was still selling books and plans as recently as a couple of months ago.

thanks Andrew
I have dropped a message via ebay, as looking he never sold 4 copies
Would you be as good to post back if he has a few as I keep looking for one from time to time.

Another book worth getting is the Fred Phun book "How to make Your Car handle" slightly different slant.
The another one worth its' weight in gold is the Len Terry book but it is very hard to find.

Everyone loves a happy ending
Strange, I only looked at lunch and could only find this one eBay Item I don't like his chances for a bit now
Thanks for posting that up as I've treated myself.
Now if you find any plans as well ???????
Ask the ebay seller - his phone number will be in the back of the book when it arrives.
If you contact the seller of the book they have plans also.... but pm me... i might be able to assist you

Just don't go distributing any scanned copies! Copyright law & all that :-)
Kevin/Warren - Books ordered yesterday will go out to you on Monday
thanks
Just for clarification........
To build the Terrapin racing car you will need a) the plans (single or two seater) b) the HSLC book c) there are a number of bulletins from the
1970's Terrapin builders forum that help with suspension, steering, gearbox mods etc.
I have posted most of these on the Terrapin Forum (website).
I do have a limited supply as Allan & I split the last print run between us just before he sadly passed away. I assume the family have now run out
from the note above.
cheers
rob
ordered a copy have been on the hunt for this for a while. if you have the rights and ever want to do a reprint run the ckc boys may be able to help with the publishing side of things.
Thanks, but I am a registered publisher and have the remaining share of the last print run that Allan & I split prior to his sad passing (one of
life's true gents). I only get a handful of requests each year as the interested audience is quite specialised.
If anyone wants copies I keep posting the remains on ebay at a realistic cost as they are quite rare and I see others reselling them at quite a mark
up!
cheers
rob
PS I will try and catch up on this site more regularly but if anyone wants to message me initially via ebay that's fine (reluctant to openly post
my new email on web) - I can provide contact details in return & also technical advice to builders in Allan's absence as I have a set of all
his build notes which he kindly gave me some years back.

So as a mater of interest, how much are the plans to make a Terrapin?

Thanks guys - I'm keeping my promise to Allan's widow and trying to keep the Terrapin legacy going.
a few points...
The first 100 anniversary reprints (only a few hundred in total were ever done and I have a few left) were signed by Allan in 2003 - Poor Allan was
quite tired after autographing 100 books and I had to keep him going with tea and cakes.
After the first hundred copies were printed Allan asked me to change the photo of him - so I guess those 1st one hundred 30th anniversary copies will
be megga rare (shows a picture of Allan on holiday at front) He then asked me to replace it with one of him in racing overalls.
The sales have been slow as the interest is focussed on a very select audince like yourselves - keen builders & racers.
Prior to his death we split the last batch of books between us as Allan used to pass copies on to friends and colleagues when he attended events. I
see some attracting high prices second hand.Incidentally only 1000 copies of the original 60's hardback version were ever printed and it is
attracting high prices. A few paperback versions were printed in the 70's with a short update at the rear (extra chapter) using left over unbound
printed material from the 60's.
Glad to see some of you are embarking on this little piece of racing history & constructing Terrapins.
If you have any questions I'll try to answer when I can get the opportunity to log onto your great site.
cheers
rob
I still have some copies tucked away in the office if anyone is still considering building a single seater racing car
regards
rob
How much Rob?
Nice to see Tiff on Fifth Gear in his holding of a Lotus!
