NTDWM. But I just spotted this on the bay. Ford Kent OHV Crossflow / Xflow 1600cc 7IIM Full Engine MK2 Cortina. MK1 Escort
I've looked at that motor and asked the question is it a 711 block. I've asked the question three times and had no reply. I presume it's not a 711 block.
i think you arent getting a reply because the seller might think you are taking the micky, if you look at the pictures you can see the block number very clearly 711M6015BA.
Ah yes I see what you mean but I got my wires crossed and was referring to a different 1600 xflow. I'd been looking at both of them and after a while they merged into one!! The one I couldn't get a reply from was ebay no.291095999764 and I did eventually get a reply which said that the number on the block was 691m60158a. Am I right in saying that the "A" at the end of the number denotes a 1300 not a 1600. Good job I didn't buy it!!
711m6015ba is 1600 block
711m6015aa is 1300 block
this also applies to the block numbers starting 681/691 etc etc
the reply you got stating 691m60158a has been misread, the 8 is meant to be a b, so that block is an earlier casting, from 1969, in 1600 size. this
engine has the stronger main caps like the 711 block but smaller bore followers like the preceding 681 blocks

As I can't find a 711 block is it worth buying a 691 block if I don't intend any radical tuning. Considering a GT head, mild road cam, 4 branch exhaust and a twin choke Weber. I'm not intending reving the nuts off the engine.
