Wtd brake disc machining
r1_pete - 15/4/14 at 09:04 AM

Can anyone help, or know anyone who could machine a brake disc down in diameter? my lathe just isn't big enough.

I need 1 motorcycle disc reducing in diameter from 295mm to 280mm.

Sheffield area would be good.

Cheers.

Claretoo isn't exactly local but the last time I was round (couple of years ago) she had a gap bed lathe & had machined flywheels.

May be a backup option.

Bolt it to a dril and get the angle grinder out

As above, mount to a wheel hub and use an angle grinder - I've done this to take a few mm diameter off my front hubs, works fine if you don't mind a bit of unevenness.

Yes I've used a spinning part, spinning grinder process a couple of times to produce lovely round items - works quite well. Work holding is a bit difficult at times though.

Local machine shop will easily sort it.

Cheers guys, I had thought about bolting it up into the swing arm and seeing if I could rig a cutter up, guess I could annoy the neighbours with an hour of two's angle grinding.......

I'm finding it harder and harder to find a local machine shop willing to do stuff for cheap prices - they all want reasonable prices for half an hours work, damnit.
