Hi Guys,
I have been doing the famous Zetec sump chop as well documented on this site.
My progress is shown as follows:
Unfortunately i have no ability or facility to enable me to weld anything myself.
So, is there anyone on this site who might be able to assist? I have many beer tokens available.
I would take it to the local welders, but one is being a tw*t telling me that you can't do this to sumps and it won't work, and the other
one would like me to take out another mortgage to pay him!
A million thanks in advance if there is anyone bored enough who fancies helping me out.
I'm in Horsham (near gatwick) but willing to drive a bit to you....
Regards,
Andy
I could have a crack, I did mine and powder coated to ensure any the pinholes were sealed (I dont think there were any anyway).
PS Raw arent available anytime over BH weekend, so might try and get there next weekend.
Wow, so you've already offered to drive up to Raw and get my bonnet, and now to weld my sump!
You're not one of these weird internet stalkers are you.....?
Seriously though, if you're willing then that would be amazing!
How long do you think it would take?
Cheers,
andy
I may be wrong but looking at your photos have you cut the sump parallel all the way round it ?
On zetecs you have to cut it to suit the alloy part above the sump
If you have forget what i am saying
PS i would have welded it but its a long way to bring it to me
Sorry
Jacko
As you know it can most definatly be done as several on here have done and so have I.
I have had no leaks from mine but then again mine hasn't run yet but has had oil in for months now.
Having looked at you pictures you may need to make a cutout in one of the baffles to get the sump to fit when the pickup pipe is in place, as you can
see in the pic here I had to make a cut out in mine to allow it to fit when mated up to the upper sump part.

A bit more detail here
Also seen what Jacko has said, if you have a look at the link I sent that shows how I cut the sump on mine, difficult to see how yours is cut but it
needs to be at an angle

Hi guys,
Thanks for the comments, yes mine is definitely cut at an angle to suit the alloy section.
And thanks Tim, forgot about the pickup cutout, guess i'm going back outside again...!
Sorry and another thing, I can't see in the images you have posted but have you cut out the old sump plug and made a cut out for that to be put
back in too?
Just checking...
lol, yeh got the old plug, haven't drilled the hole yet, just deciding where to put it!
I just cut the whole plug and threaded section out of the old one and welded that back into a slot rather than drill a hole for it, if thats what you
mean
Description
I will do it for you if you sort the postage both ways. My hermes would do it for less that £4 each way.
