Type 9 Gearbox Tailshaft wanted
carboy0 - 9/3/15 at 02:48 PM

Hi All,

I need a new tailshaft housing to replace the one that I have 'bad word' recently. If anyone has a broken/damaged type 9 gearbox with the mechanical speedo drive at the back of their garage, as long as the tailshaft housing is OK I would be interested.

PM me with the details and any pics if possible.

Thanks in advance.

Chris

Just to note: there are at least two different tail housing for the type 9 'box! If you get the wrong one, the gearstick may not self-centre!!

Ah thanks, how do I tell the difference? Mines a mechanical speedo type.

Someone else will have to tell you. If I'd known the difference, I wouldn't have a floppy knob now........

It's usually either an age or beer thing.

if you look inside the tailhousing there is a pin with a pointed end, they are different lengths between housings to accomodate the different centreing mechanisms. one of the systems uses a spring and plunger behind the 5th gear locking plate, the other type doesnt. finding out which one you have/need will be helpful.

Thanks Arrow-Engineering that's really helpful.

I'll check it out.
