You need complete diff?

gaz_gaz - 6/8/15 at 10:03 AM

ideally, a complete unit, Want to have a 3.62 and 3.38 so I can see which I prefer before having the tran-x fitted to 1 of them

Ah I see

I've got a 3.62 cwp as I've had my lsd rebuilt to a 3.38.

Only downside I've found with my R1 powered car is with the 3.38 I'm having to use first gear around junctions etc, where as with the 3.62 it was happy in second gear.
3.38 has dropped cruising rpm's by nearly 1000rpm, much nicer on road.
Running 195/50 15's my car hit the limiter on the RR at 120mph with the 3.62, so if your going on tracks with long straights I think a 3.62 would be slightly low imo

I have a 3.62 in my V8 powered Viento. First gear is mostly for car parks only. Where did you get yours rebuilt and how much did it cost?

Sorry for the hijack!

A ex Brooklyn Ford RS tech built it up for me, he charges £80 for stripping and rebuilding, you supply bearings/seals etc.
I bought a 3.38 diff and got him to fit the cwp to my lsd unit when rebuilding.

If your unsure if your lsd unit is ok someone like Bara motorsport will be your best bet, as they can refill/upgrade the viscous lsd fluid if required.

I know that's the common opinion but my own experience has been this. My 5jj R1 MNR would do 120mph on the dyno at PDQ and pull to the limiter just on the straight at Brands with a 3.62 diff. rev limiter set at 11800rpm

I went to Spa and was banging the limiter half way down the straight

For my next visit to Spa i switched to a 3.38 and the car hit a brick wall at 124mph. It just couldn't pull through the air and was actually slower up the hill before it levelled out on the Kemmel straight. I felt it was lacking a little punch everywhere else and as such changed back to the 3.62.

I know the Arion body is slippier than a 7 but the CBR also has an extra 1800 revs so might get around 125 - 130 with a 3 62 but I'm unsure of the difference in gear ratios between cbr and r1 to say for sure.
If 3.38 is the way to go then that's fine but I'd like to give both a whirl and make my mind up. I don't plan on ivaing this car so the cruising rpm's isn't an issue.
