Which Argocat model to buy?

I have a notion to get a cheap/knackered Argocat to play with in the fields.
Ant collective knowledge about them?
Seem to be quite simple but most reports say they are unreliable - wondered if this was from non tecchy viewpoint
Engines are old American industrial stuff are they better replaced with Honda industrial etc?
Does the skid steer cut up the grass at all?

Are tracks to fit over the wheels readily available and should I go for 4,6 or8 wheel model

Hi used 1 lots for work was 8 wheeler yes you can get tracks just fit over the wheels and yes you will tear your lawn up hooning about in it they are just about unstoppable as far as terrain is concerned and float with the bungs in.

Are these the same vehicles the Banana Splits drove in their 70's TV show?

As a kid I thought they were the coolest vehicle around and dreamed of owning one!

Get a late model if you can. The earlier ones where very underpowered, usually Kohler single cylinders, later V twins, and the running gear can be seriously damaged by neglect. Check the chassis out as its only folded 14swg sheet steel. As the Argo is designed to float there is nowhere for water to drain and if they are left outside they just fill up with water. To repair the chassis is a nightmare as the entire vehicle has to be dismantled to get it out. It cannot be re-welded in situ as it is bolted through the polypropylene body.... Ask me how I know!!

The tyres won't churn up too badly if they are knobbly grass tyres. Argo's used for swimming have the paddle type tyres and they will churn up grass.
