Any older (<1991) cars or projects..?
Dudefladge - 4/2/16 at 12:32 PM

Before I get my hopes up about being able to take a Locost type vehicle back to the US with me, I thought it might be best to see if there are even any vehicles for sale.

I don't know if I'll even be able to make it work, but finding a vehicle or project with a certified build date of 1991 or earlier could make it easier. That would take advantage of the US import guideline of 25+ years old for a "Classic" vehicle.

So,... What are the chances of finding a vehicle or project that old for sale at a reasonable price? Just because I mentioned "Classic" vehicle doesn't mean I'm looking for the price tag typically associated with that term. This IS a Locost forum after all...

I believe the Locost chassis originated mid 90s so you may struggle there, but kits were around before then so you may just need to keep your search wide.

Must be a few duttons about? Saying that, when did the DVLA/Vosa change the V5 thingy? I know there was a period of grace, but what date was put on eg a 1985 built dutton?

I have a Dutton from the 80's on an aged related plate (1970 the old J ) Tax free ! Also have an ex hillclimb Dutton that was put on a Q plate. There is a series 4 Dutton on Ebay at present on an age related plate, tax free, but bidding seems fierce for a Dutton, expect its the ID they want more then the car, shame, its a late model with the better moulding.

The locost books were first published in 1996, so not old enough, but as the drawings are a direct "copy" of a westfield, there must be some older versions about

how about buying a kit car mag from around 1990 to see what was about then
May 1999, Kit-Car mag. NF CanAm on test. 164 pages.

pre lit westfield was my first kit around that time which would work and cateringvans. There were also sylvas (star Leader etc and moss) but if its sevens specifically then westy or catering is the main option.

Thank you All,

I am just in the very beginning stages of figuring this all out, so I don't necessarily have a budget or car type in mind at the moment.

I will U2U a couple of you. Thanks!

Rob

BTW: Is it just me or have there been some very interesting projects for sale here recently...? LOL

rusty nuts - 8/2/16 at 07:36 PM

It might pay to put your location in your profile or at least the general area?

Dudefladge - 9/2/16 at 10:43 AM

Thank you for the U2U replies everyone.

More searching to do...

rusty nuts: Good idea and thank you. I changed my profile. Hopefully it displays my location now.

If not, I'm in Wiesbaden, Germany.

Thanks again to all that I have been exchanging U2Us and emails with.

Paul's GTM Rossa looks like a sweet deal for someone. ;-)

After quite a bit of consideration (and some deliberation with the Mrs.) I am going to narrow my search to Locost derivative type cars only.

I was looking a little like a kid in a Kit Car candy shop... Too many great choices!

I will post a new Wanted ad with a better idea of what I'm looking for.

Thanks again to everyone for helping to steer a newbie in the right direction.
