OK, after the fiasco with my Navara, Nissan have bought it from me for a good price. Leaving me after a new car!
Here is my criteria, though nothing set in stone.
Practical, small family and dog friendly
Be able to do camping trips etc
Below 100k miles
Reletively sporty/good looking
Good for long drives (300miles+)
750kg unbrake towing capacity (that is a must!)
Budget is around £8000
On my list so far is;
Audi A4 avant
Bmw 3series touring
Discovery 3 (riddled with problems I believe though?)
Any others?
BMW 5 series? I bought a 525d 6 months ago lovely car.
I know the 3 series touring are not exactly well endowed in the boot area, so do check that stuff early on.
I'll get in early. Difficult to beat a mondeo estate. Depends how badge conscious you are I guess.
Reliable, spacious and OK looking
Honda Accord Estate 2.2 Diesel
Honda
Mazda 6 Estate
Mazda

avoid early disco three. especially manual gearbox, mine nearly bankrupted me, at 40k miles with full dealer history the flywheel let go and took the crank bearings with it, also had a fuel tank, wheel bearings height sensors and lots more. went back to defenders
Alfa 159 sport wagon
Skoda Octavian vrs
Volvo v60 d3, d4 if you can stretch or d5 if you can find one
Subaru Legacy
Forester.... under rated.. but handy for towing, dogs and in the diesel guise quite economical and the turbo petrol is awesome fun !

My other half has a 3 series touring, it's not my cup of tea but I really cannot fault it.
The handling is precise, no scuttle shake you would not know it's an estate.
Quality of interior is high, bit boring even after 70,000 miles it still looks like new, paint is tough and apart a couple of chips excellent.
MPG, extremely good, high 50's always.
Performance, good for 140mph, I can believe this as it really gets down the road quickly, it's an auto.
The 750kg unbraked trailer requirement may make this difficult.. Amazing how many large cars specify less than 750kg..
VW tourag? The v6tdi is a nice thing to drive. Tows more than 750kg and doesn't have the same issues as the disco with crap hydraulics and corrosion
I suppose a wagon, so, a Volvo? Or any touring car???
Thing is nothing gets me as I quite fancy a dipper or a partner... or a kj jeep...
Got a doblo at the moment and my record is 16 pallets in the back, its chipped to 155bhp and goes well. Looks like sh1t tho but I couldn't care
less...
Sitting next to a Nissan leaf at the lights last Friday... Green light and whoa he was off like a firework.... there's me ringing the gears to
try and keep up to no avail..
some good ideas,
I had been looking at the touareg, specifically the 5.0 V10 tdi!!!! But I'm a little unsure, they look pretty bland.
Keep the ideas flowing
