A rolling shell would be ideal, not bothered about interior, engine, or gearbox. State of running gear not really important either, it would just be
easier to shift about.
Must have a V5 or a NOVA though, and not a real basket case as I want to rebuild it, not pull a fast one on the DVLA.
That's going to end up one very expensive car. I'd suggest you start with a complete running car that needs a little tlc, in the long run you'll save a lot of money plus actually have a car you can drive and enjoy at the same time.

I hear (and follow) your logic on this. SWMBO and I are looking to replace our tintop. I'm of a mind to wait for a while until there's some car reposessions taking place and dealers getting a bit keener to see if prices drop a bit. May well be hopeful, but given the credit burdened society we live in I can feel it coming.

Hmm going on the above comments, prices may go the other way.
Thing is, if we knew what was happening in 4 months time, we'd all be millionaires.
In both cases, it is reasonable to expect it will be a money pit so buy the best one you can.

mk2 were pretty mundane and gobsmacked by the imo crazy amounts they are selling for, next we will be seeing Austin allegro selling for £20k.
BTW I do have a diesel crossflow crank that can take capacity to 2.0l if you decide to wild.

Not an escort but I had been looking for a mk1 mini for a fair bit of time, I saw loads of so called project cars, good runners, rebuilt etc most of
which were total crap, in the end I bought one from over seas, all original panels and no rust ( totally unknown in this country). Mechanicals are
easy, bodywork is expensive and time consuming you can have 15k in a body no problem if you count in your hrs.

Again this is where buying a decent well desired classic car in the first place, maybe on a loan actually makes sense since at anytime things change
and you want to get rid of the car you should not come out at a loss. You just have to very carefully check there is no fee for ending the loan
early.
However I mirror the comments above in that unless your circumstances are quite different to the norm, I'd stay away from taking on any large
financial commitments till we see what happens to jobs, tax increases or any potential second wave. I went round the centre of Aberdeen yesterday and
the number of To Let signs up was truly breath taking

Might seem mad, but I've always regretted selling mine all those years ago, and now I have the space and time to build one up. Plus I have loads
of bits to put in it, 4 linked disc brake rear axle, rear bilsteins, front struts with brembos, engine, box, seats, just need the shell.
It's not such a long shot. I've got one that I want to move on. RHD South African 1.6 Sport 2-door with NOVA.
It's complete and running and I drove it before I bought it about 3 years ago but it needs fixes here and there to get it MOT-able, then UK
registered. I'm currently repairing part of the passenger floor. It won't run at the moment because I cut the battery tray out of the engine
compartment to relocate the battery in the boot.
Good bits:
Pretty sound shell. Some holes in places but I'm working my way through the shell and replacing it all with new metal. So far no big and nasty
surprises. Items like sills and chassis rails and the floor (except the passenger footwell) are sound.
1.6 crossflow with 4 speed 'box, was running fine
Brake master cylinder had failed, now fully overhauled and working fine. New rear brakes, fronts are fine.
New battery tray to go in the boot.
New wiring kit to pass the battery cable through the bulkheads.
New rear light lenses.
Steering rack overhauled.
New rubbers in trailing arms and ARB.
Other various spares I've collected over the last few years - can't remember what..
Less good bits:
Interior needs a damn good clean and general tart up. Some of the carpet is missing in the front.
Windscreen is cracked and will need replacing. About £90 I think?
'Interesting' wiring in places but nothing challenging if you've built a kit car.
Driver's door could do with a new skin (about £70). Another one on my to-do list of bodywork. The passenger side door is sound and needs no
work.
When the body repairs are done the shell would benefit from a respray.
I guess all that is more than just the rolling shell you are looking for but you could get some cash back for the bits you don't want. My plan
was to get it MOTd then UK registered (tax free!) then gradually convert to a rally replica but life has changed and so have my interests and I'm
looking to move on. I'm not at all desperate to sell and if it doesn't go I'll keep on with the little fixes here and there until
it's done. Prices seem to be steady or increasing and most of the stuff for sale is LHD now.
Any offers? I'm in North Wales by the way.

Serves me right for not checking here enough, but to be honest the initial responses didn't seem to suggest I'd get any where, so I snapped
up an estate, Mk2, 1976, from a dealer up in Durham. I'm getting SQL errors when I try to upload photos, otherwise I'd post a picture.
It's really solid, been all over it now, and it's got no rust anywhere to speak of, it's had 2 new front wings, and some repairs to the
rear arches, but otherwise seems pretty good. It has been painted and the paint job is rubbish, but looks Ok from a distance and it suits what I want
it for. Came rolling on crap wheels, but has had a new twin brake master pedal box(with bias adjustment on the dash and 2 remote reservoirs) and the
back axle had been lowered, so he was obviously going to do something with it. Disc brake struts(although the ones with the fixed steering arms), plus
all the trim needed to get it back on the road apart from the rear windows. they'll probably be like the proverbial rocking horse poo, but
I'm thinking polycarbonate for those.
All in all, I'm happy and paid just over £4K for it including the transport down to Dorset, which I'm guessing is a good deal less than
you'd have been after for your Sport Russell. Plus it gives me a bit of room for buying more goodies for it.

Sounds like a good price. I would have wanted a bit more than that for the Sport just because it's a 2-door etc. and there's undoubtedly more to do on it than the estate you've bought. Have fun with the rebuild! :-)
