Gear lever remote
greggors84 - 14/2/05 at 08:44 PM

I need a gear lever remote, like the one westfield do, and i think Tiger do a similar one now too.

Just want to move the lever back from the dash a bit.

If you have the facilities to make one then David Jenkins website has instructions on how to make one....

Replied to your U2U macspeedy.

Havent got access to a lathe so cant really fabricate my own.

Have a look at this picture I recon you could make one with a drill press angle grinder and the trusty mig

Right NP709,

That's how I aim to do mine. Will use rose-type joint at base of gear lever, similar to your scheme.
So, how do you manage to select reverse?
With my box, you have to depress the gear lever, to achieve the necessary sideways movement to reach reverse.
I'll be interested to hear how you did it.

I could be wrong but if memory serves me right I think it tells you how to make your own remote linkage in the Tiger book. Probably the only good thing in it.

Dick, there is a little bit of metal in the gearbox that stops the gearlever going straight into reverse, you push the gearlever down to go under this. I understand this can be removed, meaning that you can put the gearlever straight into reverse without pushing it down. You will just to watch out when you change gears.

First Post , all you do is Knock out the rear blanking plate from the box and weld a bolt or something to the block of metal that is the reverse stop. I have fitted a bleeper to the reverse light switch so if you accidently select reverse when at a standstill it lets you know.

the more full proof method is to remount the small piece of metal metioned above at the new gearlever position but that means you have to use the westy type remote i have already made one of these (with no problems what so ever!) and will turn a few more in the next we while
