Can any one help identify this ford throttle cable, the lead barrel is from
the carb end and has snapped off, the pedal end fixes in place with a
circlip. It is a little over a meter long.

If the nipple was from the pedal end it would look like a Mk1 1300 Escort cable. The nylon end used to fit on a ball at the carb end and a round spring clip used to snap over it to hold it on. I had one years ago and lost the clip off it and had a right job finding another clip

wasnt the mk1 very short, the mk2 went over the engine and was longer?check if its got a part no,i made my own with bits from a kit carried by AA/RAC patrols

Might have been, it was years ago and was most likely made from several other cars.

The cable has Ford and 92060 on it. My local Ford handler thinks that this has the part No 6605418 but could not tell me any more as it is obsolete.

Could you use a solderless nipple on the end?

The mk2 1300 cable is definatively short. The carb is on the off side. You would need a pinto (RS 2000) with the carb on the near side to have the cable going over the engine.

I have no idea what a solderless nipple is, can you explain?

Schrodinger - 13/5/05 at 11:25 AM

It looks similar to the nipple that broke off the cable only where the cable passes through and is soldered on the picture the solderless nipple has just a hole and a grub screw in the end to clamp the cable in place.
I think I may have one in my tool chest at home and will see if I can find it and post a picture.

I think I know what you mean, I went to my local motor bike shop and they have a set to do temp repairs to cables but they were very insistant that it was only to get you home in an emergency.
