Anyone know the approximate diameter of the cylindrical section of these alternators (so excluding the brackets)??

Don't limit yourselves to the usual Charade, Swift options. I went along to a scrappy and discovered that most japanese cars are fitted with Denso alternators, a lot had poly vee pulleys and all were quite small.
