Hi All,

I'm after a matching pair of gears or cogs to make a swager.

They need to be between 1 1/2" (40mm) and 2" (52mm) in diameter.
The number of teeth doesn't matter as they will only be driven by hand,
but they would be better if they were straight cut.
The important thing is that they are the same size.

The pic shows the sort of thing I'm after.
Top one is a feed gear off a Harrison lathe.
Bottom shows the gears on the end of my 3' rolls. (I'd prefer to keep them on the rolls)

Beer tokens or payment in kind await.

Anyone got any laying about?
Or know where I could buy a pair new?

Paul , similar gears come up on ebay pretty often for Myford lathes for not a lot of money.

What about the gears from 2 old starter motors. You'd need to make up a shaft to hold them but it wouldn't be that hard surely.

I've got a pair of Myford gears with 21 teeth but it might be worth checking out

Paul , with gears meshed centre to centre is approx 27mm overall dia approx 29mm . I have one 32 teeth gear that is approx 54mm dia bore size approx 16mm gears have keyway . Haven't for got tig lesson.

ill have a look at work tommorrow i think i have a few gears from power take of units

HPC in Lancashire somewhere have a book full of gears of all possible sorts.

I used them to repair a lathe some years back and they were spot on.

you could borrow my swadger for a while if you wanted paul, I'm not using it at present pluss it has several other wheels as well as swadge/beed wheels.

Use a pair of bike sprockets connected with a short chain ?

Pete, With a chain both shafts would rotate the same way.
I need one to go c/wise, one anti c/wise so they feed the sheet through, hence, two cogs.



All the web sites I've looked at only give the number of teeth, none give the diameter.
Anyone got a Myford lathe and can tell me the number of teeth a 45 or 50mm change wheel has?

i'll second hpc gears verry cheap compared to others too

you can specify bore and keyway also i think, may be wrong on this thiough
