I need a timing cover for my Xr2 type crossflow urgently, It has sprung a leak today due i think to the timing chain trying to escape from it. I took
it for a short drive to do some engine mapping and parked it in the drive when i got home and noticed an oil slick growing beneath it whilst ticking
over.First thoughts were the crank shaft seal but after removing the nose cone and running the engine I can see it running out of a crack on the
casing above the pulley.
Maybe it is due to it having a single pitch chain which has been a bit rattly recently but i was doing my best to ignore it.
I think I will have to fit the FWD type again as the water pump appears to be fitted differently to the rwd type.
I am going to remove it when the engine cools down and see if I can maybe weld it but am not sure if it will weld ok.

Just seen one on flee bay with about 4hrs to go
Ive just seen that also , but have managed to repair mine.I remembered I had some Lumiweld type solder and used it with very good results.
When I removed the timing cover I found that the cam sprocket had been spaced out by about 1.5mm to align it with the crank sprocket which was
slightly out of line, this had caused the edge of the timing chain to wear a thin grove in the casing until it made a pinhole that was leaking.
Cleaned it all up and repaired with the solder now just got to put it all back together and get the sump gasket to seal on the base of the timing
cover .
