MX5 1600cc Engine/Head

Hi Guys,

I'm after a second head & inlet manifold or complete/partial engine so that I can have a go at tuning/porting without having to take my car off the road.

Any 1989-2000 115bhp 1600cc engine should be good.

Can anyone help me out?

Be careful,

the 1.6 changed for the UK market.
Around '91 a lower bhp 1.6 (95 ish bhp) was introduced. It had different heads and cams to the 115bhp model

I thgought that change came in about 1994, after the 1.8 was introduced.

There was a change in 91, but is was with the size of the crankshft pully bolt (short nose to long nose)

Oops, getting my bits mixed up.
1994/5 it was.

My wife's first '5 had the older short crank which then disintergrated thanks to an incompetent mechanic.
The joys of rebuilding an crank nose with loctite :s

Yup, great fun changing the cambelts on these engines.

remember that an engine for an automatic mx5 is slightly detuned to increase the low down torque.

Keith Tanner did a book on performance projects for the miata /mx5.

it has details about how to swap a later head for better performance. I have at home and could lend it you (i work in kenilworth)
