self cancelling collar

Im after the self cancelling collar that sits under the sierra wheel as mine is missing and i have a bit of play in the wheel when the nuts done up tight.

I dont need it for its self cancelling action as im not using the stalks but i need it to fill the space behind the wheel.

Try losening off the twin bolt fixing that holds the triangular bit at the bottom of the column to the upper uj fixing. The steering wheel bolt can then pull the column up and lock it to the wheel. The self cancelling collar is not usualy compressed by the wheel, it's just in there.

i think you'll find it's the plastic collar that gets compressd by the wheel, and pulls the column shaft through, to compress the spring at the bottom of the upper column. it sets the preload on the bearings, and takes up the slop.

somebody must have one kicking about, i'll check to see if i've got one tomorrow

I got one from the local Ford spares place for about 80p... I took a photocopy of the relevant Haynes page, used it to match up to the spares shop parts diagrams, and found it in a couple of minutes.
