Capri axle wanted - CHEAP!
NS Dev - 17/10/06 at 11:18 AM

Could do with a capri axle, somewhere in the leicestershire or surrounding area, must be cheap as it is for an experimental setup.

Could do with it being std and straight off the car with no extra bits welded on, as I will be welding a fair bit on and don't want to distort it too much.

Ideally 3.75:1 or higher (4.1:1 even better!!!) but anything considered, one with LSD in it from a 2.8i special even better!!!!!!

cheers

Nat

thought you wanted mine?

still interested Mike, but I am worried that it has already been welded up once, worried that it might be a bit distorted if I cut your brackets off and weld it all up again!

yeah possibly - was only 100 amp welder that did the 'damage' tho.

(can't help being curious if you're doing what i think you're doing with the shell you've recently got)

Probably am!!! just been looking at how easy it is to 5 link the manta shell.

Basically, I can literally chuck the 16v engine in, cage it, rebush it etc and run it like that, but I know from the past the good though the Manta rear end is for a std live axle car, it gets a bit lively with 200hp, tends to chatter the torque tube, which really needs stiffer bushes, then it snaps the torque tube instead, so you need a steel one etc and so it goes on.

Much better to 5 link it but because of the torque tube you can't really use the std manta axle (which is a shame as I have a pile of them!). Hence the capri axle request!

Then I will have opel PCD at the front and ford at the rear, which is equally a pain, so have U2U'd deckman on here re. getting some ally hubs made to fit ford PCD but vauxhall fitting............

Good news is physically 5 linking it looks pretty easy, I can run the body boxes on the inside of the rear chassis rail sections and they will be nicely spaced at that.

If I use the Ford axle, I will also use a type 9 box with aftermarket bellhousing, and retube my type9 to atlas big prop, to go between em.

ahh project scope creep kicks in once more, just got to avoid the temptation to spaceframe it this time!

Chatting to a chat about propshafts at work. If you end up needing a prop shaft let me know, he'll tell you how to modify one. I learned a few things that i didn't know (ok, so you'll probably already know them!)

Going to have a few rover v8 bits to put on hear for him as well, block, pistons, crank, bearings, starter, timing cover ...... if you fancy going for a poor breathing 3.5 v8!

Wooooaaah, did i see some more scope creap? He's also got a LT97 box for 4 wheel drive and ......

Nah, XE will do the trick, its sat there waiting to go!!! That's one bit that is sorted!

I'll just need another one then to replace it so the class 9 is a goer again!
